Future finance major Looking for feedback on college selection

I’m currently a senior at a 500 high school in Pennsylvania and looking to study finance. So far my options (ranked first choice to last choice) are: University of Pittsburgh, Temple, Duquesne, Loyola Maryland, and University of Scranton. I feel like I should be considering more schools with good/decent business programs and am looking for suggestions.
GPA: 3.8
SAT: 1350
extracurricular are mostly sports and work
Thanks!

Why no Penn State – cost, location?

@bodangles I’m not a fan of their entrance to major requirements. Basically if you don’t have a least a 3.5 GPA at the end of your sophomore year you can’t declare a finance major. I know its not a crazy requirement but I just don’t like the risk as I think a 3.4 is a decent GPA.

Fair enough.

How much can your family afford?

@“Erin’s Dad” about 33k a year without taking on any debt

Here are some schools in PA that offer Finance:

Carnegie Mellon
Bucknell (Acctg & Financial Mgmt)
Lehigh
Penn State
Pitt
Temple (Finance minor)
LaSalle
Drexel

You might consider U of Dayton which has some auto merit for you (and an assured four year price). https://www.udayton.edu/apply/undergraduate/affordability.php

@“Erin’s Dad” wow that’s a lot of money, thanks for the suggestion

That is over 4 years so divide by 4. Your $35K plus a student loan could make it work.

For a reach school with a good financial economics program, consider the University of Rochester.

bump

Fordham? Not sure it’d be within range.
UMN Carlson. UMass Isenberg. Suny Albany. Suny Geneseo. DePaul. Iowa State.
Seconding UDayton.

You will get better placement going to a OOS flagship like Ohio State or Indiana.

@Zinhead I don’t believe it’s smart to pay OOS for a public school in most cases. Not if it entails taking on debt.

With your test scores, you might qualify for OSU’s National Buckeye scholarship which drops tuition to a level similar to Pitt. Indiana has similar OOS scholarships, as do Michigan State, Minnesota, Iowa and a whole host of Great Plains flagships.

All of these flagship schools can give you an entry into banking and insurance.

Check out Dickinson as well, particularly if your interest is international business.

Do you happen to know your brother’s FAFSA EFC? Just wondering if you would qualify for a PA state grant.

Duquesne might give you $15,000 in merit for your stats which will help.

I would second the Indiana Kelley School of Business suggestion - direct admit for a 3.8 GPA (weighted) and a 1300 Old SAT or 1360 New SAT - is your’s Old or New SAT?? May give you $11k merit and bring you in around $35k COA.

@my2caligirls Its 1350 New.
