great thank you for all of the support!!

ok so the word is it’s just volunteer

really man i wish tcnj gave free room and board for the certification…

does anyone remember from last year if you had to send in a mid-year and/or final transcript of hs grades to tcnj. i once called them while applying and a counselor told me they dont need any senior grades for admissions decisions. But once you were admitted, did you send in any transcripts??

I have another fairly urgent question that has been bothering me:

I was looking on the tcnj website for placement for calculus at tcnj. It states that anyone below a 600 on the sat I for math ( im not too good at standarized testing i got a 560 math and a 620 math I (sat II score)) is going to be placed into precalculus, which has to be taken before calculus. But the fact is is that i have already taken calculus and precalculus in high school and did fairly well in them (Alg. 1: A+, Plane Geo.: A- , Alg. 2H : A, Precalculus H: B, and AP Calculus currently A). Lol i am alot better in calculus than precalculus and would hate to take precalc over again. My question is how hard would it be to persuade tcnj math deptment to get approval to take Calc A and opt out of precalculus. I know its kinda sad but my sat skills arent the best and i hope someone can give me advice. I know i am going to contact the math department after the holidays to explain my situation. If i dont get approval i may have to take precalc during this summer at a community college so i wont have to worry about it. IS THERE ANY WAY TO GET OUT OF THIS???
Plz comment back

hmmm this is a tricky situation…I want to say there isn’t any way out of it due to your SAT I score…I remember at orientation a few people had questions regarding whether or not they could get out of whatever math class they were placed into and I remember the lady telling a lot of them there was nothing they could do. The only other thing that could possibly get you out would be a good AP exam score (if you’re planning on taking it) but even still I’m not sure. See what the department says

yeah i acknowledge this is a difficult question im planning to call them sometime next week about this… and personally did you have to take any placement tests. i know that for calculus there isnt one but i know there is a writing and and a language one.

I only had to take the foreign language test (french). I actually got out of Calc A because my high school course was dual credit (this is another way people can place out of classes).

was it worth it taking the french test. I went up to Spanish 4 H in hs and currently dont take spanish anymore i stopped junior year. But for the requirement for tcnj is it one semester of a language of your choice? And i m really worried about the calc/precalc issue bc i like dont want medical school to see that i had to take precalc. will they look down upon this? I dont really know. And did you have to take the WRI 102 course at tcnj or did you get to opt out of that too.

Yes, take the Spanish placement test because, unless you took the AP Spanish test and got a 4 or 5, you’ll be placed into Spanish 101 meaning you’ll have to take 3 semesters (SPA 101,102,103). The requirement is any language up to the 103 level. Med schools probably won’t care if you had to take precalc, although if you do well on the calc AB AP exam, I doubt they’ll make you take precalc (ask about this anyway). Here’s some info about placing out of WRI 102.

[WRI 102 Placement & Exemptions :: Writing Program :: The College of New Jersey](The College of New Jersey | Writing Program).

Pretty much unless you have a 580 on both math and CR on the SAT I, >26 ACT, or a 4 on certain AP’s you’ll have to take a placement test to place out of the course.

when is it normal (what month) for me to take the placement tests. I am currently a hs senior that just got accepted ED to tcnj…

and glacius did you take the spanish placement test? i’m wondering about the difficulty and what the exam consists of (short answer, essay,mc passages) bc i do not currently take spanish anymore (i stopped at Spanish 4H by end of junior year) so now i gotta go back and review some of it lol…

I don’t remember exactly when I took the French placement test but it was during the summer. I thought the placement test was pretty difficult (harder than the class I got placed into lol), 70 questions in 40 minutes. Everything was multiple choice, which also included a few mc passages at the end. I think I got around 55/70, which placed me out of french 101 and 102 meaning I only had to take 1 semester of french 103, which I took care of last semester. However, I heard from others that the Spanish placement test was pretty easy. If you do well enough to place out of Spanish completely, they may make you take another exam at TCNJ, although this didn’t happen to us.

ohh i see well thanks for all the info so basically they should inform me of the placement dates at an upcoming orientation bc on my acceptance letter it doesnt mention anything about them?
Can i ask you if you happened to take the writing placement exam or did you opt out of it bc of hs/sat fulfillments. If you did, how hard was it and were you able to achieve a 4 or higher out of 6?

I think I got info about the placement tests in the mail over the summer, so I had already taken the french test by the time I went to orientation. And I was exempted from the writing placement exam via SATs so I can’t tell you anything about that.

ok i c … let me ask you would it be crazy (i bet it is unheard of) to take the spanish sat 2 even though i am already accepted into tcnj. I read on tcnj’s website that if one gets a 650 or higher on a language subject test they can be exempt just like if you pass the placement test. The problem is idn which one i would do fine in the placement test or the subject test. maybe ill give both a shot…

have you heard of any such cases (anyone taking sat/sat 2’s after being accepted) lol

i personally don’t know anyone who’s taken the exams after they’d been accepted but that doesn’t mean it’s unheard of. As far as the placement test I think you are required to take it

i was also wondering if mid-year report or final transcripts were required to be sent to tcnj, after being admitted?

how does one go about majoring in something and minoring in another. I may want to major in bio and minor in pysch. i’m not sure yet but how do you sign up for the intended minor? Is it also possible to double major at tcnj, and if it is possible how do you sign up for another major??
