Future MIS student looking for advice!

I will be attending UA starting spring '11 after several years out of college. Transcripts are being reviewed at the moment to determine where I will be starting within the program. Anyone advice on skills that would be helpful to brush up on between now and then? What software that is used in the programming classes, what classes are best or ones to avoid, minors that are good options, or just thoughts on the overall program are things that I’m looking for. It would also be good to hear from anyone that is in or will start the program soon. I’m extremely excited about this opportunity and would like to hear from you. Roll Tide!

Only thing I know about MIS is you need to bring a suit for some reason. A friend’s roommate was in it and had to attend a lot of meeting late in a suit.

Good to know about the suit. Thank you.

I’m a CS grad student so I’ve had some interaction with the MIS students because they used to take a lot of their classes with our department. As far as I know the suit is mostly for monthly meetings where they bring in representatives from industry to give talks and meet the students in the program. They just quit taking our classes this year so I don’t know about now; but when they were with us the programming classes mainly used Visual Studio for C++, Eclipse for Java, or some compiler on Unix for whatever language the class taught.

Thank you for the info on the programming classes. Anyone know if they relocated those programming classes, and if so, where they are now?
