How hard is the Penn State Smeal College of Business majoring in Risk Management Actuarial?
What is the average SAT for those who were admitted?
How important is the Penn State essay for the admission consideration?
Any comment/suggestion will be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance.
I’m in engineering so I can’t help with that specifically. What I can say is that you don’t apply to your major until the end of sophomore year; business and engineering are probably the two harder schools to be admitted to; and applying “undecided” in DUS might help you get in if your stats aren’t quite up to snuff. Students in DUS can take the same classes and everything so it doesn’t really affect you at all.
If I have the SAT around 1900s (waiting for my October result) and TOEFL 101 with GPA around 3.5-3.6 (lots of A and Bs) and my ECs is quite decent (boy scouts, tennis, web design club, hundreds of hours of volunteer work, journalistic club, etc) what do you think of my chance in PSU if I’m applying to business/engineering?
with a 3.5 or 3.6 I’d apply Undecided (as noted above you can take all of the entry to major classes while in DUS (undecided)) and I’d even put a summer start as an option to really give you the best chance. My D had a 3.45 and was admitted to DUS for summer 2015. They don’t evaluate you for summer until it is determined that you can’t get in for fall. So it doesn’t hurt you. Keep in mind, even if you apply to Smeal, you aren’t actually IN your major until you complete all of the entry to major requirements, including GPA minimums etc…That doesn’t happen until the end of your sophomore year.
