Hey all,

So ive been accepted to ASU and accepted my offer, so I’m officially a sun devil for fall 2011!!! So I thought Id start a thread for all of us to connect and talk or w/e :)

Congrats Laura, enjoy your college experience!

LauraG2011, my DD, wife and I visited ASU on Friday and Saturday. We’re OOS. We had a great visit. DD has also been admitted to ASU along with Arizona. She’s going to have a hard time deciding between the two (along with some other excellent options!) Is ASU your first choice?

Yes, ASU is my first choice and I’ve already sent in my enrollment deposit and housing deposit so Im definately going and couldnt be happier about it! I spent a summer at University of Arizona so I know a lot about it - very different, really just depends on your daughter’s preferences. I’m going to be a Barrett’s honors college student at WP Carey business school, so the choice was easy for me - the business school at ASU is way better than UA and the honors college has been ranked best in the nation. What is your daughter studying? I’m OOS too, so I know where youre coming from :)

Laura, Barrett’s really is amazing. I can see why you are excited! The food options were amazing! D is planning to study Anthropology/Archaeology. Both ASU and Arizona have excellent programs. Any thoughts that you’d like to share on your time at U of A?

As a fellow midwesterner I think Tempe is a tad easier transition than Tuscon. More airline options too.

Hmm well I don’t really know anything about the Anthropology/Archaeology programs at either ASU or UA, but the biggest difference that I can talk about is campus life and the surrounding area. ASU has a big, private campus in a big city, Phoenix is well run and clean and great public transportation, ASU has it’s own light rail stop, etc. The college street right by ASU, Mill Ave. has tons of options from $5-$40 dinners if you want it, plus lots of cool shops and concerts are held on that street every once in a while.

Tucson, on the other hand, is the worlds biggest small town lol. Everywhere you look it looks really run down actually, I mean there are some really nice houses in the foothills but as a UA student youd have no reason to go there. Theres a big drug scene there among the teens/young adults, but obviously if you choose to avoid that you can. UA is a bit more relaxed than ASU, at ASU the energy is buzzing in the air, its really really cool to be there, everybodys talking and yeah its just a great environment.

I chose ASU because it was right for me, but just the same I realize that UA (or any other school) may be the right choice for someone else. So these are my opinions, but it really depends on what your daughter wants. Theres a thread about this on the ASU board, too :)

When did you apply? I applied a week ago so when do the tell you whether you’ve got in or not?

Thesushi, you applied during a really really busy time, this is when colleges receive their highest volume of applications, so it’ll probably take a while. I sent mine in mid september and didnt hear back till the middle of october, so it’ll probably be at least a few weeks.

Damn! I can’t wait. I really want to go to ASU!

I think one of the differences between ASU and U of A in the sciences is the more traditional approach at U of A vs. the more interdisciplinary approach as ASU. ASU’s anthropology dept. has some famous names - Dr. Johannson who discovered Lucy for example.

Hi, I’m from Norway and recently got admitted at ASU.
It only took a day from all my documents were received until I got admitted. Impressed by the admissions office!
Can’t wait to be a sun devil!

Well guess what? I got accepted today
So excited! But i’m going to wait for my other decisions. :)

Congrats thesushi! I called Barretts two days ago and they told me that my application was being evaluated right that minute so I’m nervous! Expecting to hear back any day now. And unfortunately my application for merit aid slipped through the cracks so that process is starting over and hopefully I’ll hear within two weeks on that one :)

On MyASU account it says that i have been accepted into “Exploratory Math, Physical Sciences, Engineering & Technology”. I do not understand what this is, as i had applied for a Computer Science major.
Also, I have not received any e-mail or mail regarding this.
Please help me out.

That kind of sounds like the overall category for Computer Science? Maybe that’s what they mean? It should say under the Congratulations thing or the Welcome to ASU community thing it should say Residency: and then Major: ____ so maybe you wanna call and clarify?

Sushi, you may have not been accepted to the Engineering School right away, and so they deferred you to that major. You will still take engineering classes, but you’ll probably have to reapply to the engineering school after freshman or sophomore year. This happens to a lot of students.

I called them up and clarified. They haven’t received my SAT scores yet from collegeboard. The engg school requires a minimum of 1140. I have 1260 so i’m in for sure. I’m under this general thing until my SAT scores are in. After which i need to call them and ask them to switch my major to Comp Sci. No problem :)

I just saw my acceptance online! I can’t wait to be a Sun Devil and attend ASU in Fall of 2011 as a Freshman I’m a Psychology major, anyone else majoring in the same area?
