Future transfer for Exercise Science/Bio, USF vs. UCD?

Hi guys, first post here.
Here's the situation I'm in. I'm fresh out of high school currently attending De Anza. USF has been my dream school since elementary because it's beautiful, in the city, and is a great school as well. I was accepted into USF, but due not qualifying for University Aid (GPA), I was only given financial aid in loans and work study, which is pretty insignificant for the overall cost of USF-_- So yeah, now I'm at De Anza and my goal is to study towards a career in Physical Therapy.

So here comes the question:
Which school would be better for that goal?

As stated, USF is my dream school. I've had multiple family members graduate from here, I LOVE the city, the culture/social life, weather, campus, feel of the school, etc. One and only issue is the $58,000+/year.

UCD's Exercise Biology program is suspended so I can't transfer into that major if I want to go there, but I can still transfer into NPB (basically the same study and courses needed to transfer into) at UCD and then change my major to Ex. Bio. when/if the suspension is removed. I don't really like the surroundings, weather, etc., but if it's a better school towards my goal, I'm willing to bite the bullet for a couple years here.

Let's imagine that money is not an issue (which it is:P). Which would you prefer?

My friend has also mentioned that I should look towards UCSD, what do you guys think about this, as well?

Thank you, in advance, for those who are willing to read through this long post!

Hi SJ1408 (BTW, they are beginning to use a new area code for SJ starting in October, something like 669), I too was accepted to USF and would have chosen to go there if I could afford it, but couldn’t, so didn’t and am now also attending De Anza - funny.

Anyway,

USF hands down in your situation based on location and how successfully the school integrates itself into the community and city, and the fact of them having an undergraduate nursing program (UCD is only graduate) which may provide more ties to your aspirations.

UCD is in the middle of nowhere, and besides it being a UC (including the fact of cost) or the agricultural majors, I’m not sure why students would go there over other great school they may be accepted into. I just drove past it a couple days ago and remember thinking to myself: “Gosh, it looks like it really sucks out here.” So if you’re really into the city life and feel of USF, then you may end up hating the UCD environment more than you think.

I think UCSD may be a better option vs UCD because it offers more in the bustling city feel you may be looking for. However, it seems like a more competitive campus in ways of transferring and if you’re from NorCal it may be costing you more in room & board to go SoCal.

I heard about that, but was hoping it wasn’t true. haha

But yeah, I was thinking that too. USF is really interactive with the community. I just took a trip to visit my USF friends and spent the day on/around campus and I’ve just increased my “desire” to go there by like 10 times.

I guess what I should be asking now is what is the best way to get atleast like $30k in financial aid to attend there if I do get accepted again down the road, since aid as a transfer is even harder to get than as a freshman?:/

Yeah, FA is very individual. If trying to transfer is there anyway you can become considered independent (vs dependent on your parents) by time you transfer? Typically, independent students will be granted more Fed aid and possibly the same with institutional aid. That and you can try your best to get merit aid. Remember that most likely in whatever FA package you get there will be the full amount of fed loans, especially if you’re getting grant aid from the school (they would fill your package with full amount of loans before dipping into their grant money for you). Good thing with being independent is that you also qualify for a higher fed student loan amount, so it adds a few k more wiggle room to attend somewhere. The bad thing with that is it just adds that much more k that you would need to pay back after graduation. You can visit the USF subforum and there are some threads that cover FA:
