hi Caldud, I want to bring a guest, is it too late or no way for me to register and pay for guest fee right now? (my orientation is on next 2 weeks)

I would think that it would be too late for your particular orientation date to bring a guest. But call them on Monday and see what happens.

aw man okay i will try to call them on Monday … thank you so much for ur help highly appreciate …

hi Caldud, if i bring a guest, so the guest orientation and student orientation are separated? not same?

you only see the guest in the intro and the end when they talk about money, I didnt have a guest so I cant say what they did.

Sent from my SPH-D700 using CC

oh i thought we can go together… then nevermind then thank you

I thought only freshmen have the separated program with the guest … even for transfer student too?

It’s separate.

Thanks for the orientation info caldud!

I was told that once you complete orientation, you have the ability to sign up for classes. Do you do that during orientation, or do they give you a slot for later? Wondering because I’d like to know if I should go over classes now to get prepared.

And if you have signed up for classes, what is the deadline to pay? I’m receiving financial aid, but I have no idea when it’s coming through, or if Pomona would process my payments differently because of it.

@pomonahopeful

You’re able to sign up for classes at orientation. You meet with your advisers there and the max units you’re able to register at orientation is 13 I believe. However, you’re encouraged to “drop in” to classes within the first week to see if they have available space. So, if you really wanted to and tried, you can take more than 13 units this quarter by crashing some classes, which shouldn’t be hard.

If you’re receiving financial aid your classes are waived until you receive your financial aid package, so don’t worry.

When is your orientation date? They have a bunch of information there about financial aid at the end.

Also, if you have Facebook I strongly suggest you either lurk, or join this group labeled as “Cal Poly Pomona Transfers Fall 2012”. Everyone on there is ridiculously informed on everything and we constantly ask questions and help others. And we’re friendly! :)

Hey, pomonahopeful.

I went over classes the day before. I looked up each professor in my major on RateMyProfessors, what my required classes were, what was available to take, and I selected accordingly. You can use the “plan” feature to add classes to your shopping cart and once you’re enrolling at registration it just takes two clicks to enroll and you’re done.

My adviser told me I snagged the last spot in one of my required courses and I’d say that was because everyone was picking classes right then by searching for them when I knew what I wanted to take already.

Like NorCal36 said, you can register for up to 13 units only at registration until an adjustment period that occurs sometime in August. I think you’ll be able to take up to 16 units during that time or more (I think they’re increasing their fees for those who take more, however).

so we should enroll at the orientation right? but if i want to look up and search for the classes first, where and how can i find the prerequisites for each classes?

Yes, you enroll at orientation.

If you want to find the prerequisites for each class, you can view the student catalog here: [Cal Poly Pomona - Acalog ACMS?](http://catalog.csupomona.edu/).

Scroll all the way down and choose which college you want. It should be located on the right. After that, you can scroll all the way down the page (at least I had to) and find your major. Then click “Display courses for this department” and you can select which class you want to view and see their prerequisites.

You can also do this after you’ve already logged into BroncoDirect. After you go to the Student Center (I think), go to search. Put in Fall 2012, select which department you want to look for classes in and then hit “Search”. When you find a class that you like, for instance,

GEOGRAPHY 351 - History of California

You can click on a link that’s located on the course (kind of looks like an identification number, I think) and the prerequisites and a course description should pop up there. Then you can go hit “back” on your web browser and go to the course again to select the class and add it to your shopping cart. Works very similar to websites like Amazon.com.

Be aware that you will only be able to enroll in 13 units at the time of registration until late August (August 17, I believe).

thanks so much…
hey Caldud, ur major is Arch right? Can i ask question about Arch?
i am interested in Interior Architecture, and i want to concentrate on that… Then do i have to complete ALL the Architecture core requirement, then take the interior architecture courses?

Thanks @caldud!

Already looking at classes now to have on hand…I’m worried, though, orientation isn’t until the 9th of August for me, and I hope none of these fill up. I’m just dumping tons in my cart for good measure @_@

@pomonahopeful: Yeah, for the adjustment period in August I’ve already added a couple of GE courses in my cart so I can check if they’re still open and/or enroll faster in one of them when the time comes. Honestly, I don’t think many people are going to be taking either PHYS 301 or GEO 351…so when it comes down to it it’ll just be a matter or preference.

I hope you’ll be alright. I’d definitely be prepared to take some GE’s just in case things don’t workout with enrolling in your major courses. You might be completely fine, though. I was.

@lxlinh: No, my major is in Math. I think yours will be designed the same way as mine, though.

For me, I have a major in math but in the sub-plan “Applied Math”. There is a “Core” that everyone must take whichever kind of sub-plan you decide to be (pure, applied, stats). You can take classes from both core and your sub-plan.

I am currently enrolled in:
MATH 201 - Intro to Numerical Methods (CORE)
MATH 380 - Math of Operations Research (SUB-PLAN)
STA 241 - Applied Probability Theory (CORE)

You must complete all of your core classes and what you need to complete in your sub-plan should be specified by the catalog or you can ask your adviser as well.

haha ops… sorry ^^ yea i think so too … thank you
