Fwaaah! D:

I know my chances at a lot of schools, so I am going to make this list brief. I have no idea whether I have a shot anymore because I've heard so many different things from other people, so I'm sorry about the overabundance of threads here. My grades were atrocious freshman year -- have been improving since then (except for consistent C's in math and gym, and some bad grades in honors chemistry last year).

ACADEMIA
* GPA: 88.4, and my school doesn't weight. :/
* SAT: 660 CR, 550 M, 730 W; took again on October 23; SAT II in December.
* Really awesome recs so far, I'm not going to lie. They're amazing.
* My school does not offer AP courses, but they do offer college credit courses through Syracuse University, SUNY Albany, and the local community colleges. I have scored (without a curve) 90 or better as an average in every course. Currently, I have four AP equivalent courses under my belt, am taking another three this year, and my cumulative would-be college GPA thus far is between 3.75 and 3.8.
* Dedicated to band. And although our band program is not huge, by "dedicated," I mean that I help out with every fundraiser, practice, am a section leader, will be Band Co-President this year, and so on.
* Four honours courses: chemistry, and four years of being in an English class above my grade level (that is, they aren't labeled as "honours", but when I was in 9th grade they put me into 10th grade English, 10th they put me into 11th, 11th grade they put me into college English and this year should be a 200-level English).
* Six years of language! I have taken Spanish every year except this one, and although it doesn't fit into my schedule for senior year, I am taking French II this year (French I sophomore year). That has to count for something, right?
* Working on the essays. They're turning out nicely.
* Uh, my guidance counselor doesn't like me much because I'm not in Key Club, so she will -not- give me a good letter. Just to put that out there.
* My GPA went from a 78 at the end of my freshman year to an 88.4 by the end of this year's summer semester. I hope that makes me look decent.

My volunteer experience is somewhat bald; it mostly has to do with band fundraising and helping my best friend with her church festivals.

Damn, you got 1 point higher than me on the Math A exam and 4 points higher than me on Global History!

Anyways, do you think your Math SAT score will go up? lolz, I got around the same Math SAT score as you. If you do raise it up to 600+, more colleges become matches and such, even though you do have your reaches on your list.

btw, did you take Reading Literature through SUNY Albany?

Global was such a pain in the patookus! I seriously lost the entirety of my social life for that test. Math A...bleh. Math in general sucks, and since I put all of the grid-ins IN THE WRONG PLACE on my most recent October SAT, I don't think it will be going up any more than it is. I was like...they won't let me move them, ***. *Cry

I think Reading Literature is the class we're taking now. Is it the one with a lot of political reads?

Really? You studied for Global History? It's just the regular social studies class in my school (I didn't opt to take AP European History for whatever reason) and found it fairly easy!

Well, besides the grid-ins, maybe you did better overall on math? :)

I'm not sure about political reads, but the only book I read so far was The Octopus. I think the class focuses mostly on American literature.

Ah...I'm not sure, then. My class has read Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 so far, so we may be taking different courses. My teacher said we might be having issues with course regulations and haven't registered yet at all, so we may be taking (another) honors 12 class instead of one through UHS, which is bollocks because we all took honors 12 last year!

Yes, I studied my bum off, it was faintly ridiculous. XD My teacher didn't really teach at all and AP Euro isn't offered in my school, so those of us who cared had to take it upon ourselves to learn everything out of the Barron's Regents Review book on our own. We had a ridiculous array of grades -- it was either 90+ or <79 with very few in between.

SATs are making me panicky. The math definitely didn't seem so hard as June, though. That has to be a plus.

Yeah, we may be taking different classes. Still, are the classes offered by SUNY Albany and such on par with AP courses? As in, will colleges see my 2 AP courses and my SUNY Albany course and essentially view them as 3 AP courses?

Ah well, it's cool to see that someone else on here knows about Regents grades and whatnot. Good luck with your college admissions!

I'm hoping they do. I mean, they're college credit courses, right? They might not be as hard because your fate doesn't rest on one test at the very end of the year, but it still takes a lot of mental demand to be able to keep up with any college course, especially at the high school level.

Best for you on everything, too! (Are you a junior or a senior?)

I'm a junior right now. Even though the college credit courses aren't AP, I've put many hours into reading my Reading Lit(makes sense doesn't it?:)) class.

Yeah, again, good luck. :)

what are regents?

Regents? They're New York State end-of-the-year tests.

Thoughts?

I'm not really sure about the others, sorry!

As for your G.C. recc, possibly try talking to her to get her to like you more? Because you don't want a bad rec and besides, you should have your parents go in and talk to her because thats just not fair.

Thanks, Emp! I wrote that description for a thread over the summer, actually, and after deliberating her endlessly this school year, I think she's starting to like me more (except for my having her send out my transcript fifteen times, haha). It was mostly a problem of bias. We're (hopefully) going to have a conference soon, and thank you for the advice.

I love how disproportionate the ratio of views to replies is.

No problem, I'm glad to hear its alright now :)
If you could pm me or tell me about the Union area...that would amazingggg!! :)

Posted in your thread. :**)

Anybody else with thoughts?

Amherst and Vassar will be tough with C's on your transcript, especially since they are not looking for women. Good idea to put women's colleges like Mt. Holyoke on your list. Why not put Smith on there, too, since it's also in the same consortium as Amherst and a really good school.

I'm not sure whether it is the greatest idea or not to be adding any more schools; those are just the riskier ones from my list, which in total includes fifteen different colleges. People have suggested Smith a lot, though, so maybe if I'm feeling worried before the deadline it will go on, but the incoming median GPA is actually higher than Vassar or Mount Holyoke.

Okay! News! I just took BU off of my list because, upon review, my prospectives need to have more LACs because that's what I'm aiming for. I'm confident that I can easily get into both Hobart and St. Lawrence (and they're more like my #1, Skidmore).
