I guess I like the rankings this year  D’s school, Univ of Dayton. moved up 11 places, from 110 to 99 :)

Aww… I was hoping we could just ignore the list this year…

^^^jym, you are in la la land!!! :D

I can dream, can’t I?

Lots of hubbub on the UCLA & USC forums.

LOL check THIS thread out! It was started in APRIL and has almost 1300 posts. Words fail me.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/913331-us-news-rankings-2011-a.html

Yes, USC is above UCLA in this list

jym, given the link to the thread in post #7, you were too quick in your post #3!

The ones we get usual questions on like NYU, CMU are way down the list i.e. lot of loans

US News has changed the bar for Tier 1 for National Universities. Now (I think) all schools ranked 1 - 200 are now Tier 1.

For instance, Univ of Montana (which was Tier 3) is now listed as Tier 1 with a rank of 191.

OMG: Whitman College has dropped two spots! I want my money back! :)

sooz-
That crazy thread I posted in post #7 is in the college search selection, where it belongs. Several other threads have popped up in individual college forums. Was hoping, maybe the parents forum could cut a bit of a break and not go off the deep end with another log thread bantering the logic, or lack thereof, of this year’s list (and was being a tad flippant in post # 3).

I can imagine. We compete over EVERYTHING.

jym… ignored or not, it has no effect on outcome, jobs, compensations, Grad. Schools admissions, I am not aware of any effects of UG school name on professional career, I do not know any examples of top college vs low tier college. I know many examples of people working very hard and getting results beyond their dreams no matter which UG school they happen to go.

I can’t get the link in post #1 to open. I think it’s a omen.

Northeastern University has moved up 29 spaces in the past four years! Wow. That is the college my son has selected and so that’s nice for him.

Although I must admit I’m still not clear on how these lists are made and, really, what the purpose is.

Ranking shmanking.

I posted this on the college selection board too. Perhaps someone can explain this to me:

Great Schools At Great Prices

USNEWS rankings:

What am I missing? Can someone explain to me how one comes up with a list if some schools have a starting sticker price of over 50,000, while others have a starting sticker of perhaps 33,000? Please read the methodology used. I do not “get it”.

BTW, as a side issue, I thought it was interesting that I did not see any (could have missed several though) CTCL schools on that list. Some of those CTCL schools have a pretty high endowment for the size of their schools too.

Bemidji State University was ranked #92 among Regional Universities (Midwest). While I am thrilled that it is a Tier 1 school, I believe that a school whose accounting graduates pass the CPA exam at a higher rate than the state average deserves to be ranked higher. BSU also has a 240-acre private forest.

Note: I now respond to all ranking “news” threads in this fashion.
