FYI...Bama's NMF scholarship is still available for this fall....

I’ll add as someone who made a trip thanks to ^'s helpful prodding :-), Allison was great to work with, the campus was great, and we came away very impressed. And PM me if you want the lowdown on a really good barbecue joint!

Bumping because of recent inquiries.

Yes…Bama’s NMF & NAF scholarship is still available for new applicants!

Bama enrolled 182 NMF frosh last fall and 30 NAFs. Bama has about 600 national scholars on campus! :)

over 50% of Bama’s frosh were from OOS this last fall.

the app is fast and easy…takes like 5 minutes…no essays/no LORs needed.

[The University of Alabama](<a href=“Page Not Found | The University of Alabama”>http://www.ua.edu/)

then send transcripts and scores

then fill out scholarship app (just a formality…also very easy)

Acceptance will be quick…then submit the Honors College app (also a formality for NMFs, but need to do - also easy)

The NMF and NA scholarship includes:

Full tuition, including OOS rates

Housing - including those awesome Super Suites where each kid gets a PRIVATE bedroom in a 4 bedroom Super Suite with living room, kitchenette and 2 bathrooms.

1,000 per year

2,000 for study abroad

iPad (likely the new iPad III that will release this spring)

And…if you’re an eng’g or comp sci major, you get an additional 2500 per year from the Col of Eng’g.

Let me know if you have any questions.

The campus is gorgeous, the academics are strong, and the people are friendly.

Just to clarify: a student can still apply now to Bama with NMF or apply for scholarship if they had already sent in application to school?. We were considering it in Dec but felt we had missed the Dec 1st deadline…

Yes. Deadline only applies if student didn’t make NMF. You can apply now as a NMF and still be guaranteed the NMF package.

*Just to clarify: a student can still apply now to Bama with NMF or apply for scholarship if they had already sent in application to school?. We were considering it in Dec but felt we had missed the Dec 1st deadline… *

You can still get it. The Dec 1st deadline does NOT apply to NMFs. The webpage needs to be fixed. That deadline is for NMSFs only. NMFs don’t have that deadline. You’re fine - so apply!

Lilly…Did your child send in the app? It’s not too late. :)

Let me know if you have any questions.

STILL available?!? Alabama really loves their NMFs, don’t they!

^^^

Yes…it’s still available…all you have to do is do the EZ app for the school and submit the scholarship app, and send transcripts and scores.

The scholarship is assured, but you have to submit the app as a formality…it’s easy, too.

NO essays…no LORs…

After acceptance…fill out the honors college app…just a formality, guaranteed admittance for being NMF.

Yes…Bama loves NMFs…

Last Fall, 182 frosh were NMFs. There are about 550 on campus.

Hmm, is it just the normal app on their website? I’m an NMF who wants to apply there now, but I don’t want to send in the wrong app :/

^^^

Yes, it’s the normal app on the website. Just fill it out…and send transcripts and SAT/ACT scores. The app is super ez.

[Undergraduate Admissions - The University of Alabama](http://gobama.ua.edu/) <— here’s the app.

After you apply, a day or two later you wil get a “follow up email” with info on how to set up your MyBama acct. From that you’ll be able to submit the scholarship app.

I believe on the app, it asks if you’re a NMF…so indicate that you are.

Do not worry that the scholarship apps says a Dec 1st deadline…that doesn’t apply to NMFs.

If the scholarship application doesn’t ask if you’re a NMF, then don’t worry…just fill it out, submit it. And then send an email to:

scholarships@ua.edu and give your name, CWID # (from the follow up email) and tell them that you’re a NMF and ask what you still need to do.

Come over to the Bama forum here on CC to meet other prospective and current students and parents. Also visit the Roll Call thread so you can see where everyone is from.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-alabama/</a></p>

Hey m2ck, since you’re like CC’s resident UA sponsor… :D

Did either of your kids join greek life? I’ve been researching the school and apparently it dominates the social life with something like 1/3 of the students involved.

UA’s scholarship sounds amazing, but I’m not too sure if I wanna get involved in a fraternity. Any experiences/advice to share? :)

Hi…lol…

Neither of my kids’ pledged…their majors and other activiites kept them too busy for that. One child was a math major (graduated last May) and the other is a Chem Eng’g major/pre-med.

My kids spend/spent their time with their majors, clubs, activities, and friends/girlfriends. Not much extra time for Greek system.

Frankly, not many STEM majors pledge the traditional social greek houses because they really don’t have time. There are some “co-ed academic greek clubs” that some join, but those are “low key” and largely for networking, etc.

About 25% of students pledge…but that’s not across all majors. Business majors, Communications majors, etc, frequently pledge.

If you’re a senior, get your app in NOW…it’s easy to do. :)

Also…come on over to the Bama CC forum…

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-alabama/</a></p>

Lots of new pics have recently been added.

So I logged in, and the form has told me the deadline has now passed…

I guess I’m bummed?

No…the deadline hasn’t passed. Not at all.

What did you log into?
MyBama?

What exactly have you done so far? Have you submitted the app and are now trying to do the scholarship app?

Do this…

send an email to :

lindsay.hutcherson@ua.edu

Tell her that you’re a NMF who has just applied to Bama and that you’re getting some kind of odd message about a passed deadline. The deadline has not passed for NMFs… Be sure to mention the NMF status…that’s the ticket. For others, it’s too late.

Do not say that you’re a NMSF…you need to say that you’re a NMF

Change to email info above…Lindsay has been promoted to another dept.

The person to email for the NMF scholarship is now…

Amber.Capell@ua.edu

:)

Just got off the phone with Bama and here’s the low-down on NMFs and the NMF scholarship for this fall. :)

YES…you still can get the scholarship.

APPLY

Then FAX your NMF letter to Scholarships (the scholarship app isn’t accessible, but the scholarship IS STILL AVAILABLE.

If you have any questions, email amber.capell@ua.edu

Thanks for the information on the NMF scholarship. My D applied to Bama last night hoping that the scholarship was still available. Her top choices of schools are Northwestern, Univ of Chicago, and Emory but they come with a hefty price tag. We are waiting to see if she gets admitted to any of these three and if we can afford them if she does get admitted. I have a feeling we will get very little FA (apparently we are too wealthy which is news to me) so we are looking for Plan B. I see so many positive remarks about Univ of Alabama. Thanks for all the insights for sight browsers like myself:)

Ok…got the fax number…

Scholarships fax number 205- 348-9046

So, after applying, you fax a copy of your letter naming you a finalist to the Scholarships office.

Attention: Amber Capell

I had someone PM me about the online scholarship app since they couldn’t access the scholarship app online.

At this point, NMFs don’t need to do the scholarship app, they just need to do the online university app and then fax a copy of their NMF status to Amber Capell in Scholarships.

Amber Capell’s contact info:
amber.capell@ua.edu
Scholarships fax number 205- 348-9046

Another concern was about the Honors College deadline. That isn’t a problem for a NMF or NA student. You can still submit the honors college app and be admitted. You do have to submit the HC app even tho you will be admitted.

For those who don’t have an affordable back up, Bama’s offer is good til the end of the month. Easy app, no essays and no LORs.
