FYI RE: Off-campus Housing

The same developers who built Addison Park of Boca Raton (Addison Park at Boca Raton | The Ultimate Apartment Living Experience for students in Boca Raton) next to campus are proposing a new dormitory-style housing complex in Boca Raton as well.

The proposed $35 million dormitory near Florida Atlantic University will be called University Park. It will be a a 731-bed facility at 135 NW 20th Ave. (about a mile east of campus near Dixie Highway)

The UP project will feature a private shuttle to FAU, pools, study rooms, 24-hour security, individual bathrooms and wireless Internet access.

No opening date, although it sounds like they're shooting to be open for Fall 2012.

I'll post more information when I know more. An interesting side note is that during the Boca Raton City Council meeting about this project and expanding the codes to define student housing in Boca, it was revealed that eight other developers have approached the city about student housing project near campus recently. Also, the Deputy Mayor and the University Architect have had informal conversations about re-purposing 20th Street leading out of FAU to have more university-centric business offerings.

You can see where this is going...

Go Owls!

This is great, but Addison Park has to be THE most expensive student apartment complex in the state of Florida. Their per student rate is more than double that of “upscale” student housing in most every other market.

I am happy about the upsurge in housing that brings more students on campus and living around campus. The stadium will go far in helping to foster more of a big campus feel as well. The new on-campus apartments at Innovation Village are very nice as well, but at $4500-4800 A SEMESTER, Boca is an expensive place to live if you are a student.
