FYI: UConn discontinuing EA admission

Emailed UConn addmissions office yesterday to ask a question and they told me that as of the incoming freshman in fall of 2013 UConn will only be having RD, no more EA.

Full story for anyone who wants to read it.

[UConn nixes early admission, gives one deadline for all applicants - News - The Daily Campus - University of Connecticut](http://www.dailycampus.com/news/uconn-nixes-early-admission-gives-one-deadline-for-all-applicants-1.2845798#.T-X31rUV0Vw)

TL;DR - EA has been eliminated because it was giving some students an advantage in merit scholarships and honors invitations simply for applying earlier. They also help to make admissions more competitive by reflecting a more traditional application schedule. Special programs in medicine/dentistry/law still have December 1 application deadlines.

Does the paper have editors? “Perspective students…”

With an EA deadline only a month before the regular deadline, I can see why they would just merge them. But I hope schools are on top of things, and realize the regular deadline is now 2 weeks earlier.

And they really think eliminating EA will reduce stress? The whole point of EA is getting the process out of the way, and having an answer early! So now the kids who wanted to know early will have increased stress, in order to benefit those who wait until the last minute:

Maybe they will still have rolling admissions internally (get your application in early, they make the decision to admit early), but you won’t hear about it:

I wonder how much of this is concern about the students they have admitted in November or December, who then don’t put as much effort into their final year of high school - they know they’re in before mid-terms. I wonder how many offers of admission they would like to rescind, because they wouldn’t have admitted them if they had those first semester grades?
