Here is some info from last year, i.e. when did notifications/letters come out for MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS and requests for MID-TERM GRADE REPORTS?

Last year, my son received two letters at about the same time on about February 8-
1. A letter stating that he did not receive one of the two big merit scholarships- Trustees and Presidential- but he was still being considered for admission.
2. A letter requesting that his mid-term grade report be sent immediately.

At that time, just about everyone here on CC who did not receive scholarships received these two letters in the mail. I called admissions (this was on about February 9) for clarification. This is from my post from last year-

"I just called USC Admissions and this is what I was told:
I asked if everyone who applied for scholarships (turned in app by Dec. 10) but have did not receive a scholarship got this letter and she said, (paraphrased),

"Yes- all those considered for Trustee and Presidential scholarships (interview required) have been notified. No other acceptances will go out until the first week of April. This includes those recipients of Deans or Associates scholarships (no interview required.)

The only applicants who will get notified between now and the first week of April will be those who receive scholarships outside the admissions office like Alumni scholarships. No one will receive rejections until April."

(still quoting from my post from last year)-
"So according to what I was told- everyone should have received this letter if they didn't get the Presidential or Trustee scholarship. But there's still hope for a Dean or Associate scholarship- we just have to wait until March/April."

There is one part of this that did not exactly happen the way I was told. Some admitted applicants DID hear before the first week of April- actually starting at the beginning of March. But in no circumstances did we hear of anyone getting rejected before April 1.

I imagine that this post will probably incite lots of questions, so before you post, please read this again because there is a lot of info here. Also, it's possible that their procedure could change this year.

cc411- Could you tell us what kind of stats you son had?

Also, is postal mail the only way we find out our decision? Can we call after they mailed us? I'm not gonna be at the school during spring break, which is basically 3 weeks of march, and my mailling address is my school's.

I have heard that USC does their notifications a little differently. I've heard that they usually send out acceptances along with the two big merit scholarships at the beginning of February and that all the other scholarships that do not require interviews in March. Late-March is apparently the time where non-scholarship admits get notified. Then they start to mail out their rejections in early-April.

Is this still true or did I simply hear wrong?

^This is not really in contradiction to what I posted above.

Last year-
-Scholarship recipients (Trustees and Presidential) were notified of interviews by about February 8.
-Other scholarship recipients and others not receiving scholarships were notified starting at the beginning of March (or very late Feb.) through the beginning of April.
-Rejections came out the first week of April.

So your statement is basically true except that some non-scholarship admits heard earlier than late-March. My son who was admitted but did not receive a scholarship was notified on March 6.

Thanks for posting that cc411. I'll just add - so that people don't get too freaked out - that these early letters are invitations to interview for the scholarships, but not the actual awards of the scholarships per se. I'm assuming that not everyone who gets interviewed will get one of the big scholarships.

I got a Dean's scholarship last year but I did not get that letter. But maybe I was on a different boat since I applied RHP and all RHP'ers get the Dean's.

I received my acceptance package early March. Then I got my RHP notification, then I got my Dean's scholarship notification (April-ish).

Last year people who got the big two scholarships got notified last week of january/first week of february. I'm surprised noone has gotten notified yet.

hi everyone, i have a question. i applied before the deadline for scholarships, and today I just got my acceptance letter from usc. however, i did not get any mention of merit scholarships in my acceptance letter or anything... do you think they just send out scholarship notifications afterward? since i got my acceptance this early, do you think it means i am still being considered for scholarship?

^Apparently, the scholarship interview invitations are sent in mail separately.
My D also received her acceptance today. Others have said that early notification (Jan and early Feb) indicates consideration for Trustees and Presidential scholarships. We really hope so!

First CC post! Congrats rowerchicka and Sequoia. My S received his acceptance today, too. He got into the School of Cinematic Arts--Interactive Entertainment, his first choice. Does anyone know what the process is for scholarships...an interview? Any info would be appreciated.

I think he's probably being considered for Trustees or Presidential...which means he'd have to go to USC for an interview. I think they provide the money though.

Oh, I feel much better now. My s received his acceptance letter today but did not get anything about scholarships. The packet has the acceptance letter and a few brochures stating "Welcome to the Trojan family" etc. It was very nice. I guess we wait to see if we recv a letter about scholarships.

Yes, my son received his by e-mail today. He got his acceptance package last week. But we are in the UK and having difficulty working out what is the system in USC.

Sorry if I'm hijacking this thread, but I just found out today I progressed to Finalist in the NMS...how much clout do you think this will have, considering I've not received anything yet? Are all big scholarship notifications finished sending?
