Georgia Institue of Technology is my first choice. I go to a predominantly white, small(there are 12 people in my graduating class), private school(I’m the only black female at my school) in east Texas. If I get into to GA Tech I plan to get my Master’s degree in Computer Engineering. My GPA is not the best at 3.5 unweighted but I have a bunch of EC’s and I’ll be the first generation in my family to go to college plus I attended my school on a Math scholarship.
EC- Captain of Robotics Team, Z-Club treasurer, Vice-President, Spanish Club, Crochet Club, Varsity History Bowl(First Place in Regionals), Tennis Manager, Basketball Manager, member of two bank boards, Student Section Treasurer, Mock Trial lawyer, National Honers Society, 3 different TAPPS events, and Secretary of the Guinean Associate of Texas.
I also manage my mom’s business’s social media accounts with 34k followers on Instagram and our school makes us volunteer so I have 60 from school and 30 of my own
AP classes: Psychology, English 3&4, Statistics, physics, biology, Calculus AB, Government
My school is a college preparatory school so there aren’t any honors classes and we don’t rank. I am fluent in French and Fulani and understand conversational Spanish, thanks to Spanish 3
I haven’t taken the SAT or ACT yet
I was homecoming duchess and voted most friendly two years in a row as well as best writer.
Georgia tech’s admissions have been getting crazier and crazier each year, especially for OOS students. A sub-20% acceptance rate would not surprise me this year.
Keep up the work for your ECs because they all seem impressive.
It’s great you’re starting to look into college early. Get the GPA up higher. You really need it a lot higher and an ACT in the 33 range to have a solid chance as an out of state student. Being female and african american will help to an extent, but you still need to be a extremely qualified applicant as an out of state student.
Also, are your finances in place to be able to afford 50k a year COA for five to six years (as you’re looking at a masters)?
The biggest things you can to is get your unweighted GPA up to at least a 3.7, preferably 3.8+, and study, study, study for the SAT or ACT.
Also, you could study for the PSAT as well. There are tons of scholarships for NMF students at pretty good schools in case GaTech doesn’t work out.
