Ga Tech Vs. Emory

Which of these two Atlanta schools are more well-known outside of the Southeast? I know each has its strengths but for example, they are ranked nearly identical for their MBA programs (GA Tech @ 26th, Emory @ 27th).

Which brand holds more weight in general?

GT for science degrees, Emory for the liberal arts

Do you think the GT brand is strong enough to surpass Emory if it offered a full-range of academic areas? Its business program is relatively new, and it’s already the best in the state of Georgia.

In my opinion the appeal of both of these two schools remains largely regional, although arguably Georgia Tech’s reputation for strong engineering education is national. Some west coasters profess that GT has no rep out there.

GT for engineering/technology programs, Emory for everything else.

Well, I visited the Emory forum and read several dozen posts. While there aren’t many who are miserable I didn’t find a lot who were actually happy there. I’d definitely take that into consideration.

I’d argue that G-Tech’s reputation for engineering, technology and sciences is global. It is a very respected name in Europe, and more so, in Asia.

I’m in Ga Tech’s MBA program and in talking to my classmates, it seems like we all shared the same sentiment that Ga Tech’s brand holds a little more weight than Emory’s and that is why we picked it over Emory, along with other considerations like cost and career placement stats.

Depends on the field of study. Emory is well known in the fields of medicine, bio/chem, business. Law is on the low side but still top 30. Emory’s reputation didn’t exist until the 70s/80s when Coca Cola donated over 200 million dollars. From then on Emory’s reputation grow by leaps and bounds. For the past 20 years, it managed to stay in the Top 20 ranking and considering how large the endowment is, will continue to improve.
