Quick question....my son will be starting at Rose Hill in September....He did not apply to the business school but is now interested in going to to it. Can a student be accepted to the Business school as a freshman??

Yes, my son had the same situation. He applied to transfer to Gabelli during the first semester and was accepted. I think he started the process in October and had to be finished by sometime in December to be accepted for the spring semester. He had to go to the dean at the liberal arts college to have a form signed and get it signed by a dean at Gabelli, attend a transfer meeting, and have a 2.7 GPA on his midterm report.

If you son is interested in transfer to Gabelli, he can actually send an e-mail request to Ms. Jeanne Holzmann, the Associate Director of Admission ASAP. My friend and I both sent a request recently and we were both successfully transferred to the GSB. Since we are both incoming freshmen and didn’t start our course yet, we were not required to fill out any forms or any internal transfer orientation, sending that e-mail request was literally the only thing we had to do. Good luck!

Just a word of wisdom here. Fordham College at Rose Hill is an outstanding Liberal Arts College, well deserving of its lofty ranking and reputation in the business community, government and academia. I understand those who wish to pursue a pure business degree, particularly in marketing and finance, but it would be a mistake to assume that FCRH is soft degree from a soft school. FCRH graduates routinely obtain Fulbright Scholarships, Boren Scholarships and more. They are admitted to the most competitive and prestigious law schools in the country. They gain admission to outstanding and prestigious medical schools. The go on to prestigious graduate programs, many of them at Ivy League schools. And yet still many enter the business world armed with a broad and deep undergraduate degree in arts and sciences.

We live in a highly competitive and technologically focused world. Graduating from Rose Hill gives you that depth of knowledge and character so badly needed in an increasingly two dimensional world.

Many Rose Hill students also minor in business by taking Gabelli courses, to give them that special edge in business interviews. But their liberal arts degree is also golden, it seems to me.

Its not that Philosophy and Theology majors will be discussing Nietszche and Ignatius in the lunchroom at General Electric or FoxNews. Its that they can apply their critical thinking skills to an array of complex social and economic issues facing business people on a daily basis. Or Environmental Science majors can tackle some disturbing topics of the day (such as the invasive species brought to our shores by foreign ships and tsunami debris.)

I hope people aren’t thinking that they have to run to Gabelli “to find a job at graduation.” (Often mom and dad are stoking these flames.) Be strong and be proud and take your knowledge from either school and run with it. Follow your passion students. The rest will follow.
