Gah! Am I going to get rescinded!?

Due to family issues (i.e. my grandmother having cancer) and working to help with some of my family's financial problems, my grades first semester were not so hot, as in, they were almost an average B gpa, but not quite. Am I going to get rescinded!?

What did your admissions contract say?

If it’s slightly below, you should call up the admissions office and discuss this. You seem to have a good reason for dipping slightly below the expectations.

They rescind people to discourage the reckless behavior of slacking off, but that doesn’t seem to be the case for you.

i’d contact them before they do try to rescind you… plenty of eager kids on the waitlist

a similar situation gradewise happened to my friend last year … she ended up with a 2.8 uw gpa (1 A, 2 Bs, 2 Cs but all AP) first semester and was really worried about it so she notified the admissions office of her low grades and they never responded. they didnt do anything for some reason and she attends there now. i am not sure how or why this happened so please dont assume this will happen to you (although, she seems to be a somewhat fortunate person in general …)
edit: the only possible explanation is that she had another course that was an A though this is unlikely
