at school, we have to do this gigantic research project (yes, at the end of the year) about which university we'd like to go to. i, personally, have fallen in love with brown ever since i went with my cousin to her visit there last year. it honestly seems like the only school for me, but this year, i've done really really average. i'm usually an A student, but i've been mostly getting marks like 85-88 on my report cards and stuff, plus i'm in the gifted program and all honors classes.

my question is, do you think that if i really step up my game next year and the years after that i'd have a shot?

please don't be rude, i'm dead serious here.

im in the same boat as you.
i a want to go to harvard, and it has always been my dream to do so. my grades aren't too hot right now, but i plan on stepping it up next year and the year after. if you step your game up enough, i think u have a shot (im saying this for your sake and mine :) )

Yes, you'd have a shot if you'd step up your game a lot. Check out the Brown board on CC to get some inspiration about what the competition is like for Brown.

Interestingly, my S had a similar assignment s a h.s. freshman, and also picked Brown. Unfortunately, while he's very smart -- high test scores -- he also became a real slacker in h.s. His freshman year was similar to yours, and after that, his grades went down, not up. He ended up taking a gap year after h.s. and going to a 2nd tier LAC, where he's very happy, and also is performing up to his capabilities.

Just the fact that you're calling grades "marks," are you from Canada or the UK? Because if so your grades aren't really comparable to ours; grade inflation is really huge in the US compared to other countries and US colleges take that into consideration when they evaluate international students and Canadian students. And if you're from Canada 85-88 is pretty good.

it really depends. the good thing is that you've taken a challenging courseload-that's 23498934893894 x better than easy A's at ivies.

i would say step it up, throw in an app. it's better to know, than to wonder

and i would caution doing your project on brown, if you already love it. it's an ivy, so it's extremely difficult and it might gets your hopes up. I would try to look for a great match/safety so you can fall in love with it!
