I'm taking 5 AP classes and two as a self-study this year and one of the is AP English Language. The teacher is good, we do a lot of practice essays and things of that sort. The other class isn't an AP class per se, but 'College Western Literature and Thought' which our professor claims you can take the AP Lit. exam and do well.

I have a friend who is taking the actual AP Lit class and they're doing stuff COMPLETELY different from us! We're reading literature and philosophy up the wazoo but not analyzing even a bit of it. The other class is analyzing the hell out of their literature, applying strategies, doing explications, and other stuff he hasn't even done.

What should I do? You can't really self-study AP Lit, can you? And anything less than a five is unacceptable (I have gotten all fives so far, but those were subjects that I took the actual class on).
