It's now 56-37. Still Olin... but Caltech has been 12-6 in the past 18.....

I don't have a C complier... BASIC is too slow, LISP is silly..... so I'm stuck with java in hopes that the time changes fast enough for the random num gen seed to change significantly but slow enough for me to make my decision....

Mathwiz,
there are lots of posts on CC from parents suggesting that to decide between two schools, flip a coin. If your gut tells you the coin flip decision is wrong, go with your gut. I suggest you do the same thing with your program...let the program make its decision but in the end trust your gut. Then let go of the schools you have to say no to. Good luck.

Oh, mathwiz,
trust me, it will be the right decision for you in the end. A year from now, you'll like back and wonder why you ever thought of the other place. Maybe this is one of those moments you're thinking too much?

Well, imagine the "future you"... would you rather he have a Caltech degree or an Olin degree on the wall? Do you have fond memories of the West Coast or the East Coast?

I have to say that if you do seriously have a substantial interest in astronomy or are otherwise not absolutely positive that you want to be an engineer this would be a fairly easy choice (for me) on academic critera. But I am not you.

To be honest, as oaklandmom says, you will most likely end up loving whichever you choose now. If your gut tells you one place, go there.

Given your seemly unbounded enthusiam, Caltech will provide you with much opportunity to grow. But I think you will be happy at either Caltech or Olin.

So, after some thought, where I'll do the college thing is Olin.

Thanks for your input. I still say Caltech is awesome. It'd been my #1 for the past three to four years, and it was hard to let it go (ironically for a school that had been something like #7 for me until February).

You can also apply for SURFs at JPL and Caltech during the summers too. If you don't have an internship or other research opportunity next year, you should look into it.
