Gallatin And Financial Aid!!!

ahh I recently visited Gallatin/NYU and I'm officialy obsessed. It's def my first choice and I really, really want to apply early (fall 07). The only thing holding me back is tuition/financial aid! Do you think it would hurt/help my financial aid to apply early? I know NYU isn't known for their aid, but my mom is my social worker and our EFC is probably extremely low, so do you think I will actually will get a decent package and be able to go? If I get a bad aid package, will I be paying off debt till I hit the grave?? Please give me insight, I really love NYU and want to go there, regardless of what aid I get. I just don't want my whole life to be paying off loans, loans, and more loans.

I've been accepted to Gallatin. My family's EFC was a 0, which is as low as you can get, and our aid package wasn't great at all. Even including a 4,000 work study program, I have to borrow approximately 16,000 each ear. Gallatin was my first choice, but now I'm having second thoughts..

There is no guarentee that NYU will "really" meet your need. Since you're so passionate about the school, work hard on your application and see what comes your way.

Best of luck to you. :)

Also, if you want to get a good guess at your EFC, there are calculators online that allow to put in information and they'll tell you what your EFC is likely to be seen as. I believe that collegeboard has some of those.

And, I don't know how significant this is, but when I stayed with an NYU student for a weekend he said that since he applied ED, he didn't have the opportunity to be a "scholar" as in D.E.A.N, MLK, or Rudin. Possibly, that could include presidential scholars also. This is something you would want to check with admissions/financial aid though, because these scholarships offer some of NYU's best scholarships, and it's best to at least have to opportunity to possibly receive them.

Hope things go well, good luck!
