Gallatin, CAS, transfers, and cave dwelling mutants.

Hey, y'all.

I have a somewhat unusual situation...

I applied to NYU CAS for the fall 2006 semester, and was wait-listed, and, ultimately, rejected. So I went to Loyola in MD. I didn't like it, and transferred to Fordham (RH) in the spring 2007 semester. I applied to NYU (Gallatin) that time, too. They never responded, and I didn't really think I'd get in, so I didn't really pursue them for a response.

However, I just got a letter today telling me I was accepted to Gallatin for the fall 2007 semester. Although I'd love to transfer again and go there (I'm wierd, ever since I was a little girl I had dreams of going to NYU), I won't be.

*My question is really pretty simple: is Gallatin easier to get into than CAS? And is it normally easier to get in as a transfer? *

i*

Thanks!

They look for different things. Generally, the average CAS student is less intelligent than the average Gallatin student. and many of them are intelligent in different ways.

My pretty simple answer: CAS acceptance rate this year is going to be around 6%, and Gallatin will probably be normal (around 30%). So yes, it is much harder this year to get into NYU CAS than Gallatin.

"They look for different things. Generally, the average CAS student is less intelligent than the average Gallatin student. and many of them are intelligent in different ways."

That's funny. You must be a Gallatin student.

"My pretty simple answer: CAS acceptance rate this year is going to be around 6%"

Wow, NYU CAS is more selective than Princeton, Harvard, Yale, etc? I'm impressed.

um, where do you get your facts?

ESSR: note that this thread is referring to transfer students, not freshman applicants. My source is NYU itself: http://nyu.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5874015161/m/4271025863

And CAS' transfer rate may be very low this year, but it is no way more difficult than Harvard or Yale (which accepts around 3% of transfer apps) and definitely not harder than Princeton, which hasn't accepted any transfers since the mid-90s. ;)

Oh, right...
I thought you were talking about regular UG admissions.
I was going to ask you to hook me up with whatever you were smoking.

Well, I'm not at NYU yet actually...:D

Gallatin has a high transfer acceptance rate since most of its student body come in as transfers. NYU understands that many people are wary of entering such an odd program their freshman year, so they leave the opportunity to transfer into Gallatin more open than the other schools. CAS, on the other hand, as a more traditional liberal arts school, accepts the bulk of its student body for their freshman year.

As far as freshman admissions go, they are comparable in difficulty.

this thread seems pretty old but any chance anyone could chance me for gallatin?
