Gallatin or Steinhardt?

NYU is currently my first choice; I was planning on applying (as a freshman) to Steinhardt for their Media, Culture, and Communications major. However, as the deadline looms closer, I've been wondering if Gallatin be a better choice. Ideally, I'd like to do something related to entertainment law, journalism (perhaps music journalism?), advertising/marketing, A&R, or PR. So I'm thinking Gallatin's flexibility etc would be a better choice for me, no? Or would I be able to pursue all of that as a student at Steinhardt?

I've looked on Gallatin/Steinhardt's respective websites and everything but it's all starting to run together in my head and I'm just becoming more confused, heh. Should I maybe apply to Steinhardt (I've heard it's easier to get into Steinhardt than Gallatin..) and transfer to Gallatin if I find my interests would be better covered there? How hard is it to internally transfer? I've also heard it's really hard for Gallatin etc students to take communications classes at Steinhardt..how true is this? Thanks in advance for any advice you can bestow upon me :p

As a Gallatin student, I'd definitely recommend Gallatin over Steinhardt. Your interests sound varied enough that you wouldn't be able to take the classes you would want to in Steinhardt. You'll also notice that once you get to NYU, everyone will be jealous of you because of your lack of requirements. Gallatin all the way. Good luck!

Steinhardt is much easier to get in to...

i'm aiming to work in pr too once i graduate, but i opted to major in marketing at stern.

^ ^ My ACT is a 32 and my GPA is about a 3.8 unweighted (all my classes were honors or AP, most rigorous courseload blah blah blah), but my SAT II's weren't so hot (680 and 700..), so should I just apply to Steinhardt and try to transfer to Gallatin in a year if I'm not covering everything I want in Steinhardt?

You should be able to get into Gallatin no problem

I have the same issue
I didn't know that Gallatin was more selective than Steinhardt. I want to go into a creative career and I've been pursuing art throughout high school, but I don't want to just be a studio artist. I'd like to lear about technology and media and culture and writing and how they relate to the visual arts and other art forms. I also want to be able to take a wide range of academic classes in college. So I feel like Gallatin would make sense, right? How does the academic portion of the curriculum of each of the schools compare?

Do any of you know how easy it is to take classes at Tisch through Gallatin?

and would anyone like to chance me if I post stats?

this person has no idea what they're talkinga bout. gallatin is easier to get into than steinhardt

sorry that my post got repeated 3 times.

i was referring to ixjunitxi's post

CrazyConfused: If you're talking about taking visual art classes, you'd be taking them through Steinhardt, not Tisch. I have no idea why, but music and visual arts programs are in Steinhardt and not Tisch haha...

^Which I would think would be a good thing because Tisch classes are said to be the hardest for Gallatin students to get into...

What if I have a 3.95 GPA, 30 ACT, Top 5% of my class? I want to combine journalism, fashion, culture, communications, maybe a little business...what's right for me?

From people I've met, Gallatin seems harder to get into because they let in fewer people than Steinhardt and lots of people love the flexibility. It seems like the flexibility would be good for you, and with your stats, it doesn't seem like you'd have any trouble getting in.
