Gallatin Q's :0)

Hey guys, all of you guys have helped me out ALOT with the whole college thing. I am now set on NYU. For those of you who don't know, I wasn't accepted as a freshman to NYU, but that does not pull me away from the fact that I feel NYU is the right choice for me. Anyway, I will be attending a prestigious honors program in my hometown of Miami for a year, and hopefully transfer to NYU as a sophomore. Anyway, I was wondering, I'm applying to the Gallatin School for Individualized Study for Sophomore year. I really loved NYU, and I really like the idea of Gallatin's program, and was simply wondering, what can I do in order to increase my chances of admission other than getting good grades? How hard is Gallatin to get into, compared to the other NYU schools? Any suggested coursework I should take while in college? Also, I was wondering, can anyone can tell me about Gallatin's program and their experiences with it? How are the courses, and how helpful are the staff, and how are the internships/study abroad op's? I want to study Music Business/Music Recording and Technology/Radio/Pre-law/Advertising....Long I know. I want to "major" in "music biz. mogul" haha. Any suggestions/comments/advice on Gallatin, and the opportunities I might have for this field of study within the context of the program? Thanks guys. You rock! :0)

Hey andy, I'm going to be a freshman at Gallatin this fall. I hear that admissions at Gallatin is based more on 'fit' than the other schools. Obviously, they still want good grades/stats. I recommend really being yourself in the essays, and really stress why Gallatin would be the ideal school for you. I left high school early and worked for a year after that, so my app was kind of wierd to begin with. I'm not sure if I can pinpoint what got me accepted. It sounds like you've got a bit of a plan, which is good. I recommend going to Gallatins site and looking at the types of courses they ask for (particularly first year seminars) As always, make sure what you take can be transferred.

As for internships, we have basically the same opportunities as the other schools. We might even have a better shot at some, because the faculty will get to know us so well. Incoming freshman are about 200 this year, I think. I can't comment on the faculty yet, but every contact I've had with the students/faculty/administration has been the complete opposite of the usual NYU 'red tape'. They have been very friendly and helpful.

Got to love a school that proudly lists "Lion Tamer" in their 'Alumni Achievements' brochure.
