After reading practically every post on Gallatin (my #1 choice) I could find, I'm kind of concerned about how easy it will be to take the classes I'll probably want to (upper level courses, courses in Tisch)... From what you've seen or heard, are my fears justified? I'd hate to get to NYU and pay so much for college only to discover that it's impossible to get into the classes I want to take... Thank you for any insight/advice!

What department in Tisch are you interested in? If it's drama, you won't be able to take any of the same classes that drama majors do. Generally speaking, the only Tisch classes available to non-Tisch students are those which are in the Open Arts curriculum.

It is drama, so that's a little disappointing. I found a list of courses open to nonmajors: http://specialprograms.tisch.nyu.edu/object/crsp06.html for anyone else who's interested. I guess my next question is: how soon can you do an internal transfer, and how difficult are they to complete? Thank you!

You have to wait one year before you can apply for an internal transfer. Tisch only allows transfers if they have space so it's very difficult to do because so few students leave. If you did want to apply for an internal transfer, you also have to audition at that time. It's always best to apply to Tisch for freshman admission because with the studio system, transfers usually have to start in freshman year of studio. Why would you have applied to Gallatin if you wanted to do drama?
