Gallatin

whats the avg SAT for Gallatin?

At parents' weekend we were told that this year's freshmen class at Gallatin averaged over 1400. My d's was 1340. SAT is certainly not the most important factor for Gallatin.

What else do they look for in a Gallatin admission? Is there anything specific that Gallatin hopefuls should have? And does anyone know whether you can be placed in the CAS if you apply to Gallatin and aren't accepted?

No, you won't be placed in CAS if you applied to Gallatin, but it is possible you might be referred to GSP. Gallatin looks for unique individuals who are independent. Gallatin students are creative and have all kinds of interests. Of course, all the usual things are important, too, like GPA, essay, recommendations, etc. Good luck!

What's GSP?

nevermind, i got it.

I would definitely recommend you visit the Gallatin website:

<a href="http://www.nyu.edu/gallatin/prospective/ba/admissions.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.nyu.edu/gallatin/prospective/ba/admissions.html</a></p>

There you can find all the information about what Gallatin looks for in a prospective student. They place alot of consideration on writing ability, and they look for definite evidence of being an independent thinker. Because it takes alot of responsibility to create your own degree program, they really want evidence of a highly motivated student - someone that they know will take advantage of the opportunity that Gallatin has to offer them.

The applcation says that, though it is not required, they welcome from Gallatin students a separate written statement that tells them how Gallatin can help you achieve your academic and professional goals. If you really want to go, I would suggest that you complete this also.

Play your unique attributes and interests up in your application. When you ask for recommendations, ask your teachers / counselors to highlight your independence and creativity. Make sure that it comes across well in your required application essay. Of course you need the good grades and test scores, but make sure that the Gallatin committee knows why Gallatin is such a good fit for you and why you belong there and not in CAS or Stern or Steinhardt or Tisch or any other college or university.
