I applied RD to NYU Gallatin. I haven't recieved A THING in the mail other than maybe a letter saying they recieved my application. Does this mean they are not interested in me? Has anyone who applied to Gallatin recieved mailings of any kind?

I applied to Gallatin as well and have received nothing...

that doesn't mean ANYthing. that just means that you're not one of their best applicants. just because you don't see a gazillion of people here that haven't gotten anything yet, doesn't mean that there aren't a gazillion of non-CCers that haven't either. don't lose hope!

okay good... thanks guys

Kelread59, I'm in the same situation as you.

well good luck, I assume we will be hearing soon!

I applied ED and was accepted to Gallatin. The only thing I got in the mail between submitting my application and getting the acceptance letter was an e-mail saying they had received the application. So don't worry if you haven't heard anything. Good luck!!

Hi, I have several questions about Gallatin and I was wondering if anybody could answer some of them.

What do you recieve a degree in upon graduation?

How are focuses can your classes have? For example, say, if someone was interested in Biology, Law, and English, could they take courses in all three?

Do the students that do exceptionally well get into great grad schools? If one wanted to get into Harvard Law or Stanford Psych, will Gallatin get them there?

Thanks

i applied to gallitan... what are all of your stats? If you dont mind me asking..

sunday at the square/weekend at washington square

SATS: 2110/1440
SATIIS:
Math I: 670, American History: 640, Physics: 680
GPA: 91/93 UW/W, 3.6 something
Rank: far from the top

the hook for gallatin, i think, are e.c's and the essay, if nothing else.

i have REALLY low stats i think.. at least for NYU haha, im not expecting to get in at all but its my dream so i thought id apply anyway
1850 SAT (590,640,590)
3.6 GPA
TONS (!) of e.c's tho and good letters and essays
I know they say that gallatin doesnt look as much at the numbers and more at the person and their qualties, but it is NYU so I'm sure they look a little!

My daughter has applied to Gallatin, RD, and today she received an invitation to the Gallatin University Reception, April 9th. We are assuming that's good news.

thats great! congratulations (im guessing haha). I want one!

I was invited to weekend at washington square for Gallatin
though I did not specifically apply to Gallatin, I am exuberant about it.

SATs: 2090
GPA: 3.61 (unweighted)
ACT: 30

I got a letter from a different college's assistant director of admissions who said I should thank my teachers & counselor for having by far the most gleaming recommendations their institution had seen and that they'd be suprised if anyone could read them and turn me down. So I think that helped.

Also, my essay was, I think, very original & showed a lot about who the not-numbers side of me is.

And as far as ECs go-- they are definitely my strength.
President of DECA
National DECA winner
VPresident of Youth Group
Regional Danceleader for Northern Federation Temple Youth
Coordinator for Spring Kallah (I'm running an event for over 300 teens from the Northeast)
Leading roles in several school productions
Dance, Piano all of high school
Treasurer of my school's volunteer club
Member of mentoring club

hope that helped.

hmm...well i have not recieved anything from gallitan. can i assume im rejected? i dont have incredibly high stats, they are actually low in comparison to people on this board. I thought my essay was incredibly unique and i have awsome ec's and recs.

jeff im in the same boat as you exactly.. and i havent heard anything. i wouldnt worry about it too much-- lots of people havent heard anything... youll know soon enough!!

best of luck

im incredibly nervous...its like i know i am going to get rejected but i still like to pretend i have a shot.

yep!! im the same way about william and mary. i think ive stopped being so worried about NYU because I don't think I'll be going even if I get in..

First of all, guys --my daughter's invitation came in Saturday's mail. We are on the west coast, but near a major city & postal distribution center, so tend to get mail pretty quickly. So just because she has the invitation today doesn't mean that you won't get one.

Secondly, I don't know whether the Univ. Day invitation goes to all admittees, or just to select admittees. The semi-official word is that all who get the invitation have been admitted (though I still feel that it ain't over until the fat envelope arrives) -- but I don't have any evidence that the converse is true. It is possible that NYU has 3 categories of admits: the cream of the crop (who get invited to Sunday at the Square), the pretty darn good (who get invited to University Day), and the remaining masses. Gallatin is fairly small, but University Day is done for all the schools, and I'm not sure that it would be effective for the recruiting purpose it serves if it was overly crowded.

Finally: my daughter has really terrible test scores, at least by cc standards. 29 ACT. She chose not to submit SATs because they wouldn't help. She has a good GPA but a rather lopsided high school curriculum. If she is accepted at Gallatin I think it will be because they liked her proposed course of study, and the demonstrated preparation she had for that. So, whatever you do, don't agonize over comparing "stats". I don't see how any decision could be made as to admitting students for "individualized" study based on standardized measures.

You will know for sure when the envelope arrives next week.

And if you truly are the type of student for whom the school of "individualized study" would be ideal, then you will also do well and find a way to take control and shape your education at whatever college that you end up attending. So good luck to all - but the true gift of individualism is that you have the talent and creative ability to succeed on your own wherever you go.
