Galveston vs. Blinn TEAM

I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I was accepted into both A&M Galveston and the Blinn TEAM, and I can't decide on which one to go to. I plan on transferring to Texas A&M- College Station in the future.

All I know about the two (but I could be wrong) is that Galveston requires a 2.5 gpa to be transfered, and Blinn a 3.0. I also believe that it is harder to get campus housing at A&M when on the Blinn TEAM. Other than that, it's all I really know.

So if anyone has some insight/advice on the matter, that would be greatly appreciated. :)

Both transfers to A&M are automatic as long as you keep your grades up and take required courses. Galveston is easier to transfer after one year - with Blinn Team you are already taking a course on A&M Campus and can be considered an Aggie - football pass, rec center, full A&M activities - etc.
You will not get on-campus housing at A&M this year, but it should be easy to find housing in B/CS. Many of the apts have roommate matching service.
I do not know much about Galveston campus - one of my daughters roomates at Callaway was on Blinn Team.

It is my understanding that Galveston students have all the benefits of CS students. Their diplomas are from Texas A&M (as opposed to Texas A&M Commerce or Kingsville, etc.) , they get the same aggie ring, you can buy a sports pass and go up for the games and have full use of the facilities.

On campus housing is usually full by the time Blinn Team is announced. The private dorms might have availability.

My daughter also got accepted into Galveston and just found out she got the Blinn TEAM. If you don’t mind spending a year in Galveston, of course that is the easier route because all you have to do is change curriculum to CS the next year. With Blinn TEAM it takes a little longer but you get all the goodies of being a TAMU student and you are already in CS. My daughter already had housing in CS so she is going to take the Blinn TEAM hoping she can transfer before the 2 years.

In case you haven’t made a decision, which I assume you already have, I would like to respond to Blinn Team vs. Galveston. I have two children at A&M, one did TAMUG, the other Blinn Team. Pros and cons to each. My son did a year at Galveston, including the Corps down there. He is now about to begin his senior year in the Corps in College Station. Galveston was a great option for him. He made a 3.75 taking 30 hours there, all which transferred to A&M (the grades I mean, so he had a great GPA going to CS.) He had small classes and learned how to study and interact with his professors, etc. in a smaller, more personal environment. Galveston is considered an extension of the A&M campus, just on the ocean. Football tickets are part of the packet, and they always drew great seats, and drove up for every game. He and his friends who subsequently joined the Corps in CS have all excelled in leadership roles. My daughter was accepted to Blinn Team, and it was a better option for her. The town of Galveston can be sort of sketchy, so I probably wouldn’t have felt comfortable sending her there. As a TEAM member, you take the majority of your classes at Blinn, but are an A&M student in every other aspect. Sports pass, student rec center, all organizations, etc. The only thing you CAN’T do is join a Greek sorority. (Boys can pledge a fraternity however.) You can live in a dorm on campus if there are any open by the time you are made your offer. She lived in Callaway House, a private dorm right next to campus. Rode the bus to Blinn so she didn’t have to drive, which was a bit of a pain, but it worked. You have to take it to TAMU campus and change to a Blinn bus, but she liked the opportunity to be on campus more. She knew many people who were Blinn Team, and others who were straight Blinn. She gained full admission after one year, making all A’s and B’s, and all A’s at TAMU. So she had a 4.0 at TAMU by the time she started full time. Plus, she got her hard classes behind her at Blinn, in small class settings. And I also need to mention the price break. Blinn was SO MUCH less expensive than A&M, so we saved some money. Lots of kids do both years because of that. So, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend either way, TAMUG or Blinn TEAM. Both programs kept my kids on their toes with their studies that first year, as they had a goal of getting into A&M full time, and I think they developed some good study skills as well. Going into Senior year, my son still has a 3.4 GPA, which is not bad, considering all the time he spends with Corps activities. Good luck with whatever you decide to do, but being a graduate of TAMU is worth whatever avenue you take to get there!
