Let's play a little calculus game. Just post any calculus problem and provide the solution. I'll go first.

integrate : x^2 (e^x) dx

for this you need integration by parts, twice.

the final answer is: e^x( x^2 - 2x + 2) + C

Calculus in humanity's greatest achievement.

by the way, the formula for integration by parts is as follows:
integration sign: u dv = u v - integrationsign v du .
you just have to know how to pick the "u."

That's not a fun game...
:(
reminds me that I have to study calc

zante, if you need help, i will be glad to help you. just post any calc problem you have and i will be happy to provide a step by step solution. I recently won a state calculus contest, so i think i could help you out if u want.

Integral 1/(1+x^2)=arctan(x)

I have a fun one for you guys:
integral of e^(-x^2) from 0 to infinity.
This is a multivariable one.

That's why you're calculusboy...riight.
Thanks but it's that I don't know how to do it, I just don't feel like it.

Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. This reminds me of my much-neglected calculus homework, sitting in the den upstairs.

Somehow I always envisioned dens to be downstairs, like all dark and moody with a big tv and a fur rug thing. No? mmk

Well, ours upstairs from where I am - I'm in the basement right now (ours is finished). Our den is on our first floor. But my grandmum has the sort of den you're envisioning, with built-in dark wood bookcases and a gorgeous fireplace, and it's on the second floor.... I don't really know where I'm going with this, so few brain cells left after today.

Ahh that sounds pretty. And it sounds like your house is very big. Poor me, no space in new york =(

who started learning about multiple integration today!! now THAT'S beautiful calculus

I haven't started yet. I think we start this week. Doesn't sound like fun, nuh uh.

what's your highest level of calc taken? everybody. . .

I'm in BC right now. School isn't very strong in math. I don't mind that much, I don't like it.

Haha, I love that everyone else is at integration right now. We're currently studying the use of the first and second derivatives to determine graph behavior. Then again, I am in Calc AB. Test tomorrow! Hehe, I'd say we were behind, but we're flying through the book. shrugs

AB, but we were where you are now phil about 3 weeks ago. Of course, my teacher speaks no English and refuses to show derivatives when explaining work - really helpful when the mistake you made was IN your derivative.

Zante, my house isn't very big - about average size for my area. I don't think I'd make it in NYC, thought - not enough green space, I would think.

ohh that's why I need princeton. I need fresh air and grass...sighhh
