I can't seem to get any quick answers from the champlain e-mails I've been trying to exchange. I hope I can get a more direct answer on here.

Firstly, I plan on following the game design path if I do attend Champlain, but I read somewhere there are only Macs at the school? Is this true? I've been a windows person my entire life and have not a clue about Macs nor am I willing to learn how to program / design on a mac.

Are there single dorms available at Champlain, and what would be the odds of actually getting one of those for a transfer student?

Thanks.

Hi there. In regards to computers the campus is 50/50 mac vs pc, so go right ahead and use your windows computer. You will not be forced to get a certain type of computer for you major. There are plenty of computers on campus should you ever need to use one that you don’t have.

As for single residence halls, we have some on campus and are in the process of building another hall with just single rooms. We also offer transitional style housing, in apartment form, that gives students private bedrooms, but common areas that you share with roommates.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions you can continue to message us through this forum, or contact me directly: studentambassador@champlain.edu put my name natasha in the subject line. Good luck and we hope to see you on campus in the future.

Hi JArruda,

Just to add to what Natasha said, not only do we have both kinds of computers on campus, but that major is pretty heavily focused on just using PCs. There are some options for Macs, but generally the software and tools that students use to create games are primarily for PCs.

Let us know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for the quick replies!

Nice to know you guys do include PCs and single dorms. What would be the chances of a transfer student getting a single dorm? Is it something competitive that seniors grab ASAP or what?

It depends on what is available when you apply. For that you would need to work with residential life. They know the best ratio of who gets what. Usually RAs get single rooms first though. When would you be starting? I might have a better answer depending on that.

Okay, by this Fall, the new residence hall I was talking, with only single rooms, will be open. So I am guessing you will have a chance at a single room. I would suggest talking with Claire Giroux-Williams about single room housing. Here is her email address: giroux-williams@champlain.edu

Let me know if I can help in any way.

Are you sure about the new residence hall only being singles? I think there is alot of conflicting info out there about it. On this page - [Our Newest Building | Residential Life | Champlain College](http://www.champlain.edu/residential-life/our-newest-building.html) It mentions singles and doubles. On the Parents FB page I was told that The new building will be sophomores exclusively.

That is what I had last heard. Truth be told I have heard some conflicting things, but I will look into it and let you know. And it will be for upper classmen, that I know for sure.

When you say upperclassman, do you mean everyone except freshman? Because the Champlain person on FB said sophomores only.

Yes, that is what I mean. I have not heard of sophomore only residence halls. Maybe Nicole knows more about them and will be able to chime in.

nweinstein, I am speaking specifically about the new residence hall, Tri Res A.

Yes I am aware. I just did some digging, and while more information will be released in about 2 weeks, you are correct. It will be a sophomore only residence hall with single and double rooms.

Thanks for responding in my absence, nweinstein! Sorry for the confusion, we were still waiting to hear the final word about the residence halls ourselves here in Admissions. However, the most recent message on here is correct - the residence hall will be both singles and doubles, and will be a sophomore dorm, at least for this upcoming year.
