Game Design?

I applied and was rejected, but am appealing, hopefully the new stuff will sway the admissions office.

How is the new game design degree?

Supposedly, very good.
I was there a few months ago and got to talk to a bunch of students in the program. They were all very enthusiastic about it. I even got to view a game that some guys had done their senior year. Very impressive stuff. Also, it’s fairly common for students in the program to get internships. One of the guys I talked to had interned at Sony.
The major is supposed to prepare you for ANY type of programming job, not just game programming, so it does not put you at any kind of disadvantage.
Also, they have a very nice game development lab. TV, couches, many many dual-screen computers…yup. Plus, UCSC has a game library. :D

I read about the game library and the development lab. Gah, I want my appeal to be good =/. I’m very nervous right now.

What are you saying in your appeal?

Do you know why you were rejected?

I’m guessing it was because of my failure in the first semester of AP Calc AB, but for 2nd semester I moved myself to regular Calc, which I am receiving an A in. In the appeal info it says you can propose summer coursework to meet admission requirements, I’m putting that in there along with the fact that my father lost his job since I submitted my application. Those are the big stresses of my appeal.

Sounds good…hah, try and make it really heartfelt though…I bet if you can get them to cry, you’ll get in.

Starting it with a quote that relates to how the more you go through in life the stronger of a person you become. Slowly bringing that into my family’s financial status my entire life, down to the fact that I’m living in a 2-bedroom apartment with 2 brothers, a sister, and my unemployed father. Think I’m getting to that heartfelt point?

Good luck with your appeal!

I hope you get in :)

I got in without going past trans to college math :]
