Game development career

I'm looking for good colleges for a game development career in programming. I'm particularly interested in its alumni, contacts in the game industry, and what programs are offered.

Here's my list at the moment:

Safeties:
UW Madison
Purdue
U of M

Reaches:
Carnegie Mellon (dream college of the week)
Cornell (other dream college of the week)
Stanford
MIT

I know there are certain colleges particularly for game development (DigiPen), and Georgia and U of TX Austin are supposed to be great, but I can't stand hot weather and I intend on getting a good Computer Science education in artificial intelligence and graphics as a backup plan if the game industry does not work out. I'm also particularly interested in virtual reality applications.

Any suggestions on what colleges for game development and virtual reality? It would be great if they also happen to have research in these fields. Thanks!

I think USC has this major.

Lola,
The University of Southern California has two options associated with this field:

Interactive Entertainment in the USC School of Cinematic Arts. This program is more involved with the creative and artistic development of games. Princeton Review ranked SC #1 for this major. Check out the YouTube video from SCA about Interactive Entertainment. Classes are in the brand new SCA complex, which is a $100 million dollar facility.

Computer Science/Games in the Viterbi School of Entertainment. This major involves more of the engineering, programming and design of games. Students use the Game Pipes Laboratory. The curriculum includes core areas of advanced computer science such as artificial intelligence, modeling and algorithm design

USC is about 14 miles from the beach.
