Funemployed can be absolutely hilarious with the right group. We played it last Christmas with the family. Our group basically can be shameless and great talkers. We laughed SO much! It got wilder (and funnier) as we kept playing. If the people in your group have a fun sense of humor (and a bit of actor in them) it’s great.
I agree! I think it’s a great small-group game!
We’ve been enjoying Skip-Bo when the kids visit - a card game requiring minimal attention but still enjoyable, and it allows us to have a conversation at the same time.
Definitely light and interactive. The eggnog may be flowing, so nothing complex!
Gosh! Thanks for all the suggestions!
I don’t want to hijack this thread. Looking for 2 player board games. I know there was a thread previously on board games. I tried looking for “board games” but the thread did not appear. Does anyone know how I can locate it? TY
There was this one, but it wasn’t limited to two player games:
FWIW, Parks can be decent for two players, but we sometimes have each player use two tokens making it “sort of” a 4 player game.
My kids actually slightly prefer the original, but you can’t play it with as many people. I’m fine with either version.
Azul is good for two people. It’s one of my favorites (but not my family’s).
We love playing Qwirkle (https://www.amazon.com/MindWare-MDS-32016W-Qwirkle-Board/dp/1933054395). It’s nominally for 2-4 players but works fine with 5.
Does anyone play dealer’s choice poker anymore? My family likes it as an after dinner game.
Herd Mentality can be goofy fun.
And you can play Code Names with teams of 3 and 2 – it is fine unless you are super serious about keeping score.
I bought “Splat” (small box travel game) at Kohls for my daughter. No idea if it will be good. Just thought it was worth a chance for her to play with us on Christmas and then use on camping trip with friends.
Patchwork is a fun 2 person game, easy to learn and play. Mix of strategy and luck
what about LCR ? (Left Center Right)? We enjoy it.
(it is also a really good one to take if traveling… small footprint).
We also loved Kwizniac. But played it not according to rules. We all just shouted random names out until we got it…
Telestrations is also a favorite. And I cannot draw. pathetic. but that is what makes it funny.
Thanks Creekland!
Two player games-- Forbidden Island, Codenames Duet, Wingspan. Also Lost Cities card game and Forbidden Desert.
If you want games with a regular deck of cards. My Caltech game group which has up to seven people playing on Steam ends up playing “Screw Your Neighbor” (also known as “Oh Hell”) almost every week. You just need a regular deck of cards. Spoons is another card game that works with more people.
Other games we enjoy regularly is Red7 Red7 | Board Game | BoardGameGeek I have yet to figure out how to think about the strategy!
we have played Codenames and I just hated it. hated it. we are learning Wingspan but it just seems like toooo much, which is why I love Azul and Carcassone.
You can find demos of games on YouTube , which can be handy. We were stuck learning Photosynthesis and the video helped a lot.
I ordered The Game of Things today. We shall see how it goes over!
