Gamedays at your school

For all you people going to big time sports schools tell us how tailgating/atmosphere/parties are on gameday.

I go to NC State and gameday atmospheres in football are absolutely electric. With our newly bowled-in stadium(carter-finley) it can get REALLY loud. 60,000 screaming C-F fans can get as loud as 80,000 fans. Tailgating is awesome as people pitch tents and setup their RV's 4-5 hours before a game. I couldn't tell you about after parties because we haven't one a bigtime game in 2 years at home. I will tell you that they oversold tickets to last years Virginia Tech opener and were having to send people away because the upper decks were getting to crowded.

Oh and I could have sworn I felt the upper deck swaying that night...

Mario Williams = God.

yeah at clemson we seat 86000 in death valley and this year were gonna be over 90 with the new east endzone... the tailgating is insane, all of the fraternities have their tents out and have bands, booze and girls, well start at 7 am for a 7 pm kickoff

college football is the greatest american invention

GO TIGERS

How often are underage drinkers busted at tailgating? I'm not going t a football school but it doesn't really affect me, but I was arrested at a school for underage drinking so I know that they can sometimes be strict. Do the local police let things slide as long as they don't get too rowdy?

I have no football team at my college.

I still support my high school team 100% and I've never been a tailgater, so I can't help you here. Why tailgate when you can eat inside the stadium?

I've never actually drank at a football game but I am aware that they are very strict. If you wanna get a little buzzed before the game then drink in your dorm room. Getting caught in a dorm isn't bad at all. I was caught drinking in a dorm with some friends one time and we all got off pretty easy.

not at clemson, a 9 year old kid can walk around all day with an open container and not be stopped once, the cops are there to prevent fights and whatnot

Dude, at Auburn (WAR EAGLE!), people start parking their RV's on WEDNESDAY before the game on Saturday. It's crazy! We currently seat 87,000+ in Jordan-Hare, but I heard they were adding on and we'll have upwards of 90,000 this year, which is awesome. They're definitely cracking down on the alcohol drinking, but there are ways to get around it (strapping a flask to your leg, is one I've heard). I'm sure there are probably some absolutely crazy after-parties, but since last year's football season was the fall of my first year, I didn't really know anyone that well then. I have seen people start drinking at about 10 am when the kickoff wasn't until 7:45 that night, and that generally sucks because people are so freaking insane by then. I like the earlier games because people don't have as much time to get drunk off their asses, lol.

MacTech, people tailgate because the food they bring is ENORMOUSLY cheaper than buying stuff inside (like $3.50 a bottle for a 20oz Dasani? hell no). Plus, alot of people just like to be in the atmosphere outside the stadium. I know people who go tailgating even when they don't have tickets.

Hell yeah! Gameday is insane at school. People go crazyyyyyyyyyy for BU football. Go Terriers!!!! w00000000000000t

at penn state they are already drunk at 8 am.. i swear :)

$3.50 for a bottled water is highway robbery. I usually hit the water fountain for this reason.

If they ever make a water fountain where you have to put a quarter in for five seconds of water, I'll have to start bringing in little bottles and filling them in the bathroom or something. I love tap water since it's cheap and (in my area) flourinated.

haha, our first game is against Notre Dame...sheeeeeet

Gameday is pretty big at UVa, but I could imagine what the atmosphere would be at UTexas, Oklahoma, Auburn, Georgia and etc....

bingo...it's not a matter of "why wouldn't you just eat inside"

Yeah, didn't catch that. Must just be me. I'd much rather be in my seat--especially for baseball so I could watch some BP.

(I'll get to the ballyard at like 4:30 to watch BP, walk around, look for people I know, say hi to my friend who works at one of the stands, find some good food--fish and chips is always good at PNC Park--and then go and savor every minute of the game. Football games I just roam the crowd and concession areas looking for folks I know)

Clemsonbo, LA Tech's so gonna kill y'all on Sept 30th.

Heh, j/k. I've got a friend at USC that's going to that game for me to root for Tech...he even laughs at me for saying Tech's gonna win. lol

Gameday at Nebraska is phenomenal...something I relish.

The tailgating isn't great b/c we're such an urban campus and there's very little parking (plus our fans have jobs that prevent them from showing up on wednesday). But there is some, you just have to pay for the spots for the season - it's one area I'll admit that we can't match the SEC.

But house parties and the bars and various spots around town all make up for the se of tailgating. Starting on Friday night people start pouring into Lincoln. There are a number of hot spots that people hit every week, at the same time. The marching band goes to a couple of restaurants on Friday night, and then on saturday makes their way through most of the bars downtown. Gradually more than 80000 fans make their way to Memorial stadium I'm not sure the exact total b/c we have a new addition that was just finished for this season, but I'm thinking it's going to be about 83000, all dressed in red, and various "corn" apparel.

80000+ means that the stadium the THIRD LARGEST CITY in the STATE on gamedays.

yeah im sure la tech is gonna kill us...

It's outstanding, especially if College Gameday comes to town (last year it did against Tech, this year against Ohio. St). And well, we just won the national championship and got the biggest collegiate sports jumbotron ever... So this year will be even crazier.

Well hopefully Wake Forest will repeat last year against you :)
