yeah i checked my link and you'll have to scroll down and check the "nVidia 8800" button again...

There's a new round of price cuts from Intel for Monday. The online stores already have the new prices. If you're really into gaming, it might be cheaper to go desktop + laptop.

I agree wholeheartedly. Unless you have money to burn, "gaming laptop" is a word with no substance.

i don't think you want that alienware laptop lol

$1350 for a laptop with an 8800 in it. Sure it doesn't have a great processor, but it won't bottleneck the vast majority of games.

lol, yeah i hadn't seen that thread on alienware... it makes me very glad i got a MBP instead, except for the fact that my GPU will probably fail within a few months here, if the harbingers are right on that...

We have MBPs at 1 year old, 7 months old and six months old and they're all running just fine.

yea, they aren't all defective.

Yeah, there's no way something made by Apple could have flaws؟

^ where did he imply that Apple's are flawless...

Look into the Asus laptops. They look great for their value and powerful specs. F8 series might be good for you.

BTW Dell Studios are not eight pounds... mine is under six and it's good enough for Oblivion, WoW, and Spore (really want to try that one out). Yeah, they're not the most demanding games, but I didn't get my laptop just to game, because like people said- to get a really really good gaming laptop, you have to pay a ton of money.

"Yeah, there's no way something made by Apple could have flaws"

Well, if they do, you just bring them back to the store to have them repaired or replaced under AppleCare. Part of the Apple premium is premium service.

My 7 and 8 year-old Dell laptops are all running fine too. The only hardware problems that I've had (after 1999) are with HP desktops within the last two years.

A coworker had a problem with a new Latitude system - one of the headphone ports was putting out extraneous noise (static). He called Dell, they talked to him for about 45 minutes, and then scheduled on-site service to replace the motherboard. I haven't had the chance to ask him how the repair went. But buying from Dell Small Business gives you domestic phone service and on-site repair service. Dell generally gives you more of a hassle on phone support.

I've never used the site, but I've heard generally good things about cyberpowerpc.com.

If you scroll down on the homepage, they have pretty cheap (800 to 1000) gaming notebooks. Maybe something you'd be interested in?

15.4 display is the perfect size 17 is too huge.

the 15 inch starts at 6.11 pounds and the 17 inch at 7.87 pounds. Not only that, but their form factor is really bulky.

...and that's without a discrete card. package that with having to lug it around sometimes for college, with the power adapter and/or an extra battery. It does have decent-6 cell battery life, though.

Oblivion IS a demanding game. An hd 3450 will run it, but def. not at highest or close to highest settings.

Oops, I must have been thinking of the 15" I bought... I got the 17" instead, although I probably didn't need a screen that big. Definitely huge.

Anyhow, I just got my laptop today even though they said I wouldn't have it until September 3rd- 5th. Pretty nice, considering that a TON of people have been complaining about the Dell deliveries.

Other than that, I'm okay with the size. I was really thinking about a MacBook but I upgraded almost everything possible on my Studio and it still didn't come to the price of the basic MBP. Plus I want to game, and there is no point of a Mac if you're running bootcamp. Sure it's pretty and light, but I think I'll be happy with my obese Studio- I never had a problem with our Dell desktop, and it's ancient- eight years or something.

lol - 15" and gaming laptop don't go together. The one exception is the Alienware m15x. Otherwise, it's going to be underpowered and overheating...

um the m15x has plenty of overheating problems

the Asus G50V is 15 inches nd a good gaming laptop too though

<sarcasm>
Get a Mac. Good for gaming.

you definitely do not need $2,000 for a system that will run COD4 on highs. A little over 1k is enough.
