Thanks! Swarthmore is wherr I want to go most and then Georgetown. Hopefully, I can get into one of them.

bump!!!

Female Chinese (correct me if I’m wrong in my inference) student, eh? Then your GPA and ACT does matter a bit. You would be better off having better ACT by retaking it if possible -since you can’t fix your GPA now. And unlike what someone here said, you being 2 years ahead in math won’t help too much. Plus, your ECs are too unfocused and insignificant. Summarily, you have nothing that makes you noticeable, both academic-wise and EC-wise.

So it all boils down to your essay and letter of rec. Want to get into Swathmore? Good is not enough. Get a stellar essay and letter of rec. Then you might have a mid~high-match with Swathmore ED. With simply good ones, you’ll see yourself at the Reach level just like Catria said.

Thanks, I do agree with everything you have said. I do think Swarthmore is a reach for me, but I really want to go. That is why I am EDing it. I will try my best to write a stellar essay and stand out, but it will be hard due to their pretty generic topic.

anyone elseee?

You will probably get into them all except maybe Hopkins

Thanks! Yeah JHU is a hard one, but I like the school so why not apply. Anyone elseeeee?

Swarthmore : High Reach, But definitely possible.
University of Maryland College Park: Definitely in, Chances at good scholarships are ~50%
Univeristy of California Berkeley: High Reach
Georgetown: Reach, Good shot
Johns Hopkins University: Reach
Wellesley College: Match
Smith College: Match
New York University: Match
Haverford College: Match

You need to set yourself apart, possibly retake your ACTs. Beyond that there isn’t much you can really do about it.

Btw, I’m from Maryland.

Can you chance me back?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1402111-chance-me-ivys-stanford.html

Thanks! Nice to hear from a fellow Marylander, and I chanced you back. Anyone elsee?

make sure you SAT is high 1900s to 2000s and I think you have a good shot at these schools, even NYU, nyu is known for paying close to attention to the personal essay compared to other schools

Though I agree your GPA is somewhat low for many of these schools, I think you still have a pretty good shot at most of the schools you listed (although I am less familiar with admissions at the small LAC’s). Your GPA is low, yes, but if you can make a good case in your essays that explains the family situations that caused it, I think admissions officers will understand, particularly in light of your good ACT scores. Also, your extra curricular activities are solid, and show a good amount of leadership. I wish you the best of luck!

If you wouldn’t mind chancing me back, I’d appreciate it. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1394691-chances-selective-universities-thanks.html

Thanks everyone! I was wondering if a music supplement would help set me apart. I know Smith and Swarthmore take Music Supplements.

Those are all definitely matches for you except i’d say Georgetown and Hopkins are a little reachy. Those are some wonderful stats you got going on there! Chance me?!

Thank you for your encouragement I really need it in times of stress like now!

I think it would be almost impossible for you to get into Berkeley with only a 3.52 (unweighted) GPA given that Berkeley weighs HS GPA heavily. The average HS GPA (unweighted) for for OOS at Berkeley is 3.91.

http://admissions.berkeley.edu/studentprofile

Really? This girl I know got in with a 3.6 gpa oos. Idk…I really like the school, so I am going to apply anyway.

I defo can’t understand American college system. Ha!

Your GPA isn’t bad at all : p It’s solid, and along with your SAT scores and terrific ECs, you shouldn’t be worrying.
Anyways, at places like John Hopkins, I can’t really say that’s you’re totally solid, but you stand a fighting chance. I have a few friends who went to NYU and honestly despite what everyone says, it’s not that difficult.

Also, please chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1402969-rate-me-applicant.html

(shameless self promotion ftw)

You are a fairly strong applicant and Id say you are set for most of them except JHU, UCB and Georgetown. So
Decent chances at all except Hopkins, UCB and Georgetown.
They just might prove to be a Reach/Low Reach.
But you just dont know what the colleges might be looking for, so apply and keep your fingers crossed. Hope you get in. (So dont let your morale fall my mate!)
All the best!

Also (self promoting ), Chance me back?
