Hi so I am currently thinking of taking a gap year/semester. I just finished my first year at Bryn Mawr and it went pretty bad. I got very depressed during it and was very lost career wise (major wise?) (I went in thinking of doing comp sci but then was unsure about it). So yea I did ok, like I didn’t fail any classes. I have a 3.0 GPA. I don’t think I have credits that are transferable. I took really random classes because I wanted to fufill distribution requirements and wanted to explore. I took intro to computing, esem (like english 101 for freshman), calc 2, and french 1st semester. Then second semester I took french, psych (I dropped out of it though), a dance history class, and form of the city, which was like a history of cities class.
So basically the issue is I took out around 8k in loans last year to cover the cost of tuition and room/board. I didn’t have help from my parents or any money saved up. This year the COA is going to be around 10k and I can’t afford it without taking more loans, which I’m scared to do since I don’t even know what I want to major in. So I’m thinking of taking a gap semester to figure out my options and see if I want to transfer. I am planning on working at my internship. My issue is I feel like I didn’t take classes that are transferable and I really like my friends at the college. I am very lonely when I am home and have to deal with all my family issues, which have taken a toll on me so far. I want to try get a tech internship to see if I like computer science but I’m not qualified since I’ve only taken one computing class. Do you guys have any advice regarding gap years/semesters? Any advice to make the most of them? This is mad long I’m sorry lmao.
