My S is strongly considering a gap year next year. He called admissions and they told him that he will need to apply for this in April. Based on his conversation with them, approval for a gap year will likely not be an issue. He inquired about whether his merit scholarship will also be deferred, and that was a question they could not/would not answer at this time. Has anyone taken a gap year in the past and had their merit scholarship deferred? I know that we will have to wait for our own answer in the spring, but I'm curious to know what's been done in the past. Thanks.

The students I know from the past that took gap years had their merit preserved as well. I don’t know if that is actual policy though. It seems to me it is essentially the same as a leave of absence, and scholarships are preserved through one of those. But it is technically not a leave of absence, so maybe you need to go higher up the food chain for an answer.
