I am in my junior year and I am looking to get recruited to a field hockey team. However, I want to take a gap year after my senior year. Can I still get recruited? If yes, I have not started the recruitment process yet which limits me to D3 schools, but would taking the gap year but me in a different pool that would open up D1 schools?
Thank you!
You aren’t limited to D3 schools if you are a junior. Many D1 schools may have ‘filled’ their teams, but they haven’t actually signed anyone (can’t until next Nov) and there is always movement.
But you can always tell the coaches that you want to play for the first time in the 2017-18 school year, so yes, that would be a different applicant pool.
^^^^Agree that you are not limited to D3 schools. D1’s and D2’s are still recruiting for your year. If you do take a gap year, just be sure that you are playing on a competitive team during that year as I would guess coaches recruit from club teams for field hockey.
