Gap Year Essay

I've read twenty different things on the internet about the interruption in secondary school option (If your progression through secondary school was or will be delayed or interrupted in any way, please check all that apply. Click here if you: did/will take gap year) Some people say that you should add an essay there if you took a gap year AFTER you graduated, some say only put an essay if you took a gap year during high school, some say don't put an essay at all.

I'm not sure what to do. I took a gap year AFTER I graduated, working two jobs, training as a manager at one of them, creating a youth council/board at a local charity, and to take time to make the right decision for college and help my parents settle their financial situation. I'm not sure if I should put an essay or not. Any ideas? I'd like to hear from someone who filled out the common app after taking a gap year after high school, preferably, but I'll take all the help I can get. Thanks!

Bump! Would really like an answer to this.

I’m taking a gap year right now and I have graduated last june from high school.

In my case, I will have 3 “Interruptions in Secondery Education” :
I have changed high schools during the past 4 years
I have graduated early (I’m 17)
and I’m taking a gap year

You have to justify those statement, so I’m going to write out an official paper with where I went to school - what year - when did I skip a grade - when did I take a gap year. I’ll have it signed by my latest school official.

Hope that helps
