Gap year for residency status and saving up?

I am currently a freshman at a university in Iowa. My parents are planning to move to Texas by the end of the year and I am stuck on if I should move as well. While its only my first year I am considered a Junior because of my credits. I was thinking about transferring to UT because it has been my dream school. I am worried that since most of my credits are one’s that I took at a community college that they won’t transfer. I also currently have a full tuition scholarship but I am not sure if I would lose that if my parents moved, since you have to be a resident of Iowa. I know that UT gives full tuition if your parents make under a certain amount and I would qualify for it. Is it a good idea to take a gap year or should I stay?

As long as you can keep your scholarship I would stay and finish out. You can always get your masters in Texas.

Have you checked whether you retain or lose Iowa residency if you parents move away while you are in college?

https://registrar.uiowa.edu/classification-residents-tuition-purposes 1.4(2) Guidelines (a)(1) may be relevant.

Stay, “Financially dependent students whose parents move from Iowa after the student is enrolled remain a resident provided the student maintains continuous enrollment”

Chance of transfer to UT is very low. Your parents have to be there a full year fulfilling criteria to get you instate tuition, but you are still an OOS applicant/transfer. UT is a very difficult school to get into, period. TAMU too. The UT promise may not even apply to transfers from OOS. Make sure you read the details.
