I am currently a senior in high school in the US, and will be spending a year abroad in Chile next year. How should I go about the college process? I've already applied and been accepted to some schools. Should I pick one and try to defer? Or should I reapply next year?

That’s up to you. Why did you apply if you weren’t going to pick one and defer? Many colleges will do that. Although I have seen that some state colleges won’t. Perhaps because this award is known program, many will allow it. What do you want to do?

I think it makes sense to pick one and defer if you can. You have already gone through the application process, not need to do it again. If there is FA being offered, that may not be available if you apply again later.

I actually went abroad to Chile last year through Rotary…different students in my group did different paths for college admissions. Most deferred, however one girl applied while there and another guy actually reapplied to his school of choice and got more scholarship opportunities after participating in the program. If you have more questions or questions about your year next year feel free to message me
The easiest is to choose one and then ask to defer. This is usually granted.
