Gap Year for Study abroad?

I’m currently a Junior in High School, so I’ve been thinking about college. I’ve been aware of the CBYX for a while now and am thinking about applying for the year after senior year (so I’d have to take a gap year before college). CBYX is a program that awards 250 full scholarships to high school students to spend a year in Germany. There’s a lot more information online if you google it. Any thoughts? Or advice about applying (from alumns)?

If I were accepted to CBYX, I would have already applied to college but I would request a deferral for a year. As of May my Junior year, I’ve created a short list of where I’m applying to. However, I am having trouble finding information about some of their policies about deferring for 1 academic year. Any information about the policies of the following colleges would be greatly appreciated!

Renssalear Polytechnic Institute (RPI)
Northeastern
SUNY University at Buffalo
Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI)
MIT

Thank you for any help!!

MIT permits it. Most upper level schools do as long as you are admitted RD, some will not allow it if you are taken off the wait list. I know nothing about the program although you make it sound competitive. So it is one of those delimas since you would normally consider it an honor or award but does mentioning it before you are admitted reduce your chances of admission?

Contact the representative for the program, usually they know where the students go to college and whether they got course credit.

Just call the admissions offices at each school and ask about gap year policies. You don’t need to identify yourself if you don’t want to.

Thank you, I will! I don’t know why I didn’t think to just contact them.
