Hello, I was a running start (dual enrollment) student in high school. I graduated in 2020 and have been a college student at CWU. At CWU with covid, living on my own, and other responsibilities I have not been doing too great grade-wise.
My GPA is like a 1.5. I want to transfer but I don’t know what to do. If my Spring GPA is higher, can I still transfer? If I take a gap year between CWU and my new university would I be able to get in with a gpa of 1.5?
Please help anyway you can, I’m very stressed.
A “gap year” is typically a time where students take time to work, and save money for their college expenses, or, a time for a student to reflect upon their educational path.
It does not erase your college attendance history.
At a 1.5 GPA, you would have extreme difficulty transferring into most schools. Your best chance to transfer is to attend a community college and get your GPA up, learn how to be academically successful, and build up your confidence. Once you do all that, then you can transfer. The colleges want you to be successful and they want to see you succeed at a community college.
This is very common, so don’t stress yourself about your situation.
It’s been a very difficult year and a lot of students have been affected by things going on around them.
Go to your local community college, and meet with a transfer advisor/counselor. They will discuss your future course schedule and help you figure out how to transfer to another college, after you’re done with the community college requirements.
Make sure you are honest on your application about your current school. The colleges and universities in this country value honesty and truthfulness. Whatever you do, don’t omit what you’ve already done.
Good Luck!
