So here's the deal: I'm transferring out of Umiami for various reasons (I'm in honors program and on decent scholarship).

I still have to hear from Brown, Dartmouth, Bowdoin and Wake Forest (where I would pay 50k a year). I have been accepted to in-state Uconn.
I was already rejected, surprisingly a little, by Washu.

SO...if I get rejected from Brown, Dmouth, Bowdoin and Wake (which I'm not too sure I wanna go to)...would it be okay to take a gap year? How would admissions work if I did take a gap year?

My gap year would be me trying to get a good internship for a little and then traveling/service around the world the rest of the time.

I believe UConn is a great school and I know I will like it socially because I have so many High School friends that go there…

But I’m just worried classes may be too big and what I don’t like abt my current school is that there is no academic atmosphere…kids arent exactly intellectual. SO im kinda scared that Uconn will be too “dumbed down” in terms of the students (not the programs or professors)

You could ask U Miami for a LOA to do a gap year. Think about why you are wanting to transfer out even though you are in the honors program with a scholarship. Get some experience working/ do an internship- but don’t just lay about. I have known a number of students who transferred, then once they were accepted somewhere else, decided they would have done ok if they stayed. You are giving up a merit scholarship that you won’t duplicate anywhere else. That $50,000 x3 would pay for alot of travel and unpaid internships.

Sorry I forgot to make clear…money is not an issue. If I left for Uconn I’d actually be saving money. If I left for say Dartmouth…I would only be losing about 70k total. (maybe even less)

I want to transfer because there’s no academic atmosphere here, I don’t like the social scene (like clubs and bars), I don’t really like the people here, and I want to be closer to home.
