Gap year/Inter Ivy transfer questions?

1) How hard is it to transfer between Ivy league schools?
2) I'm already committed to a school. But I might take a gap year. If during that gap year I reapply to a school different from the one I committed to, will I be considered a freshman or transfer app?

If you take a gap year, you also must certify that you won’t apply to another school during that time.

No ivy has good transfer rates. Just be content at the one you’re heading to.

There’s no real advantage or break when attempting to transfer between Ivies. It’s not like switching schools within a college, the Ivies are totally different schools. Their only real affiliation is their membership to the Ivy League athletic conference.

I’m most likely to receive straight Bs this semester. If I reapply using gap year, will colleges really scrutinize those Bs?

ljf: It’s more difficult to transfer into an Ivy than applying as an incoming Freshman. That said, straight Bs would take you out of the running surely.

^^^T26E4 This. If you got into an Ivy but turned into a straight “Bs” student senior year then, TAKE THAT ORIGINAL IVY ACCEPTANCE AND RUN! Taking a gap year to avoid having to attend ivy #1 isn’t going to improve your chances in transferring out of ivy #1 and into ivy #2 as you’ll have to sign a gap-year agreement prohibiting you from applying somewhere else. To begin with, your chances of transferring from one ivy to the next are very slim, if you add a gap year into the mix, ivy #2 might be disinclined to accept you on the basis of academic conviction(or lack thereof).

Your situation may seem, to you, a personal one but on a larger perspective scale, having to attend a “2nd choice Ivy,” shouldn’t be something you should be trying to avoid. Embrace ivy #1 as there are literally 1000s of kids who would trade places with you in a heartbeat. Try reading some of the waitlist threads for some perspective. The only factor that would validate your apprehension is COA but considering most(if not all) ivies match FA packages, I’m going to say something else is going on here . . . Maybe you want to join a friend/s at the other ivy? Just speculating . . .
