My son just graduated HS and is taking a year off between HS and College. He did not apply this year; he is going to start the application process this fall, so right now he is not affiliated with any educational institution. During his year off he would like to get an internship. He has found one that is very desirable, but there is one rub. The firm he would like to intern with requires that he be able to receive credit for his work there. He does not care about the credit, but that is the firm's policy. I guess the company does not want to be accused of hiring kids and them not getting any tangible benefit (either pay or credit). Does anyone have any advice on how best to handle this?

Could he apply for enrollment at a community college and arrange to have those credits apply towards something at the community college? It might cost you a bit of $, but if the community college sees a way to make some $ and your son sees a way to pursue an internship, it could be win-win (plus, credit come uni time might be a benefit in disguise!)

If he gets CC credit, will he have to apply to other schools as a transfer student? Not a good situation.

Perhaps they can hire him as a contractor? The amt of money they pay can then be nominal.
