Hello everyone Im currently a senior at high school, my dream school is Lehigh university, I applied there ed but unfourtunately I was rejected, which is fair enough because I got 1210 on my SAT which is very low (650 maths and 560 reading) I took the exam in october 2017 and I didn’t know much about it back then, however, I feel like I can get a much better score currently, as for my toefl I got 110, I still want to attend Lehigh university, therefore I considered taking a gap year, but since it is very risky my parents won’t allow me to,therefore the only solution left is to attend a university to which I have been offered admission and re apply to Lehigh but most of these universities are not so great so I don’t know If I can transfer from such universities to a great university such as Lehigh(I have been admitted to saint joseph college brooklyn, Franklin university switzerland, Hult university, Northwestern University Qatar and some other non american universities in fFrance and belgium), also chances for transfer students are very small, therefore what I want to ask you is if I can apply as a freshman to Lehigh university even though I attend another college,or should I lie or tell them I was taking a gap year, and would that be risky.
Please answer ASAP if you have any Idea because the deadline for me to enroll at universities where I have been accepted is very close.
Thank you in advance.
Listen to your parents! Go to a school where you have been accepted. International acceptance to Lehigh is a long shot no matter freshman or transfer, and whatever you do, don’t be dishonest if you re-apply as a transfer.
My Question is can I apply as a freshman and tell the university I want to be considered as a freshman even though I spent a year at another university
No, you can’t do that. You will have to apply as a transfer student.
One you enroll/matriculate at another university, you are a transfer student. Not a freshman/first year. I am a Lehigh graduate. It is a wonderful school. But no school is worth putting your life on hold for a year or more hoping that you will get in. Additionally, Lehigh is crazy expensive and you can obtain a very high quuality undergrad education elsewhere. I’m not trying to dissuade you from applying if it is your dream, but settle into the univ. you select and gecome part of the campus and begin your life. You will be overall much happier.
It’s not about Lehigh specifically, I just feel like my first experience with SAT was a complete disaster and I could achieve much more, what if I take a different major, or if I attend a French school, can I tell universities I took a gap year, how will they even find out?
NU-Q is very good for the majors they offer.
What are your career plans?
Why Lehigh specifically? Have you ever visited?
I have been dreaming about getting a degree in finance ever since I was a kids, im really good at maths and languages and communication which would give me a boost at the business domain, as I said its not about lehigh specifically, but they offer a great finance program, my dream job is to work at a hedge fund, if I attend NUQ all that will remain a dream and I will be studying things I dont even like
I think you have what is called “magical thinking”…that somehow you can do something to get into Lehigh. It would be very unlikely that you could study enough to get a better SAT score.
I think instead of trying to fit yourself to a college…find a college that fits you, which you have done.
Look at the Lehigh Common Data Set to see if they take many transfers.

Also, transfers don’t get merit scholarships generally. Can you afford Lehigh at full price?
Bloom where you are planted. If you think you are better than these colleges, then you should do well.
Please just answer my question, I dont like any of the schools to where I havebeen accepted, I want to attend a top-tier school, can I tell them I took a gap year and how will they find out
If you had a great high school GPA, good letters of recs, and stellar extracurricular activities then take the gap year. Drastically improve your SAT score, consider taking a subject test in math if that is where you shine. When you reapply to Lehigh they will want to know why you took a gap year, so try to get involved in a job/internship/activity that merits your break from enrollment. They will know you took a gap year because your transcript/application records will reveal it.
If your high school GPA is not Lehigh caliber, then go to one of the universities you got accepted to and get all As and be active in the school. Make sure you take classes that would transfer to Lehigh.
If you do study in France you will have to apply as a transfer to Lehigh, which might be difficult depending on how the school is structured.
Or you can go to one of the schools you got into a make the best of it.
Best of luck whatever you decide!
“can I tell universities I took a gap year, how will they even find out?”
There is this thing called the Internet. Universities all over the world know about it. It allows universities to share information.
If you attend university anywhere, then you need to be honest in reapplying to Lehigh or anywhere else because they can and will find out that you attended university.
Admissions to US universities as an international student is very competitive. If you get in most US universities are very expensive. If you didn’t get in out of high school, then your chances for the same schools are not all that good after a gap year – you will mostly be applying with the same information sent to the same school.
If you go to a good university elsewhere intending to transfer, then you need to do two things: (i) Be aware that the chances of getting in as a transfer are at best unknown. As such go somewhere where you would be happy through getting a Bachelor’s degree, work hard and try to fit in wherever you go; (ii) Try to get straight A’s, both to improve your chances of transferring and to improve your opportunities if you don’t transfer.
Another option is to get a Bachelor’s degree elsewhere, then apply to US schools for a Master’s degree. If you do this, then when applying to graduate school your high school grades and SAT will not matter. However, your grades in university will matter, and you may need to take another test such as the GRE.
“can I tell them I took a gap year and how will they find out” - NO you can’t. It’s unethical, it’s dishonest, and they will find out! I believe most people have answered the same way.
What country do you live in?
If you’re in Terminale, what’s your moyenne, filière, and notes du bac de 1e? If Belgium, Poésie/Rhéto results + expected CESS results?
What French/Belgian universities admitted you?
What’s your budget (how much can your parents afford each year)?
Register NOW for the May SAT and the June 9 ACT. And prepare well. (French-system applicants always score terribly on standardized tests because they’re the exact opposite of what they’ve been trained to do their whole lives. So, it takes a lot of “retraining” to score at the level of your actual skill. Time to get working).
Lehigh is over: they don’t admit a student whom they rejected. It’d be like saying “oops, we made a mistake”. So, if you want to reapply, you MUST apply to other universities than Lehigh.
What about attending a BTS or classe prépa in France? Those don’t count as universities for US college purposes but as a “PG year”, so you’d be able to apply as a freshman.
Hey, I’m in terminal science physique, 18.30 en regional, 18.70 en premier smestre, asfor french universities i’m still waiting for their decision, I also applied to KU LEUVEN and am still waiting, my budget would be around 14.000USD per year (I know its very low) and isn’t it too late to apply to classes prépas?
Have you looked in to McGill in Canada? You would have to take a gap year and come up with a better list (I’m not sure how you came up with the one you did; why even apply to NU-Q if you’re interested in finance?)
EU citizen, I assume?
I considered McGill but I was advised not to apply as I won’t get enough financial aid, as for NU-Q I myself still don’t know why I applied I was very stressed at the time when I found out about this whole US colleges stuff, and no Iive in Morocco, Purple Titan I assume you attend bishop’s University? I was accepted there but not enough financial aid, unfortunately.
Uh, no, I don’t attend Bishop’s.
So which of your options are affordable?
Currently saint joseph college brooklyn and still discussing with Hult international business college
I think a gap year and researching better options is what you should do.
With those grades, are scholarships to French grandes ecoles possible, @MYOS1634?
