Hey y'all.

I have an acceptance all lined up, but I'm seriously considering the gap year and entering into the class of 2018.

So I guess my question is: If you could do anything for a year, what would you do? I NEED SUGGESTIONS :)

first off, congratulations are in order! :)

I’m in at D right now and am seeing about deferring a year. My best friend and I are hoping to travel to Europe and bum around for a few months - we’re planning on staying and working on farms in exchange for room and board, then exploring the cities on weekends. If that’s not your cup of tea, well, that’s cool too. My sister stayed with family friends in Italy and studied there for a few months, then came back home, took JC classes, and got a job.

There are also tons of gap year programs available, both cheap and expensive ones. It really depends on what you want to do. ^_^

xo-- Congrats!! My S did a gap year and thought it was one of the wisest decisions he ever made. He was a student teacher in an inner city Boston high school. It opened up vista for him–both that he loved teaching and having an experience very different than the prep school he attended.

It also allowed him, after 5 A levels, to catch his breath and when he started at H he was hungry for college.

So whatever you do–work, volunteer, travel-- all of it can be great. There are a variety of books available that can give you ideas of things to do outside of the more commonplace, but even doing something as mundane as holding down a paying job will provide you with a perspective on life that you will not get at Harvard.

But that is for tomorrow-- tonight, just celebrate!
