I have decided to take a gap year. My chances of acceptance will improve after this year. No college is deferring my admission but I will apply later. Am I doing the right thing?

There’s no “right” or “wrong” thing here. If you spend the gap year doing something fun and engaging and grow as a person, then it’s a great thing to do.

I am preparing for AP, Doing some community service and developing applications + Getting music theory classes!

Would It reduce my chances at universities ?

I am doing the same thing (spending my gap year learning Scottish Gaelic, reading every Shakespeare play in chronological order, taking a bookbinding class, and, most importantly, interning at my high school as an English teacher). As my college counselor says, colleges are always looking for students that are one year wiser and more experienced. I’d say that as long as you’re doing something truly meaningful with your year, go for it.

That was inspiring. Thank You
